What % are each of your most flown entities? Airlines, aircraft, etc..

Tue Nov 15, 2016 10:29 pm

Hi!

I was looking over the statistic portion of my flightlog earlier today and noticed that my flights have been over 50% on Icelandair. That's understandable as they almost had a monopoly in KEF until a few years ago, and most of my trips still start and end with a flight on FI. But it got me wondering, what percentage are each of your most flown entities? That is, how many % of your flights are on your most flown airline, aircraft type, subtype, registration, airport etc.

For me:

Airline: Icelandair - 50,84% (181/356)
Aircraft: Boeing 757 - 50,84% (181/356)
Subtype: Boeing 757-200 - 45,5% (162/356)
Registration: TF-FIO - 8,15% (29/356)
Airport: Keflavik - 51,69% (184/356)
Route pair: KEF-FRA - 6,46% (23/356)
Class: Economy - 61,24% (218/356)
Year: 2016 - 12,36% (44/356) and counting!

The fact that both FI and the 757 are exactly the same number is a complete co-incidence! I've flown the 757 a few times both with UK carriers and on Delta. On FI, I flew the 734 a few times back when it was still here and also have a couple on the 767 already, along with one flight on it back when TF-FIB was here in 2005. Most of the flights on TF-FIO were logged back when FI only had around 10 757s, I always seemed to get -FIO! "Only" flown it twice since 2012. KEF is understandable as there's only one international gateway here (aside from a few flights to the Faroes and Greenland from RKV).

Looking forward to see your lists!

CRJ definitely counts in my book, I count the CRJ as the type and then the -200, -700, -900 and -1000 as subtypes.

The fact that I used to work for Intel and flew on their corporate shuttles a lot really skews my results. At one point I was flying on them on a weekly basis.

Airport: MHR, 23.8% (145/296)
Airline: Intel Shuttle, 53.3% (162/296)
Aircraft: ERJ, 54.3% (166/296)
Subtype: ERJ-135, 35.2% (107/296)
Route Pair: HIO - MHR, 20.4% (62/296)
Class: Economy, 99% (293/296)

Now here are the top ones that don't involve the Intel shuttle. The percentages still include the shuttle flights however, because I don't feel like redoing the math to subtract out all those flights.

Airport: SMF, 9.2% (56/296)
Airline: United, 10.5% (32/296) (Not including United Express)
Aircraft: Boeing 737 (31/296)
Subtype: A320-200 6.6% (20/296)
Route Pair: MSP-SMF 1.6% (5/296)
Class: Same as above

Airport: Córdoba (COR) 62.6% (297/474)
Airline: Aerolíneas Argentinas (AR) 66.4% (314/474)
Aircraft: Boeing 737 44.5% (211/474)
Subtype: Embraer E190 24.6% (117/474)
Registration LV-? (?/474)
Route Pair: COR-AEP 54% (256/474)
Class: Economy 60.7% (288/474)
Year: 2015 21.7% (103/474)

Does the E190 count as a subtype? I would call the E-Jets as a whole as a type, and the 170-175-190-195 like the A318-A319-A320-A321. Also, don't know the reg for like 80% of my flights, sorry.

I would call the E190 a subtype of the 170/5 190/5 line :D They are all very similar.

Subtype: Airbus A320 - 13.2% (85/646)

Class: Economy - 96.6% (624/646)
Year: 2014 - 26.9% (174/646)

Great idea - pretty easy to tae from flight diary. Surprised how many of us are in the 300 flights range. I didn't log my early flights properly in that with approx. 30 flights I know only the dates, routes and airline and in some cases can only assume the aircraft used. This is particularly difficult with LH flights using A32X. I didn't start to log registrations until flight diary included this feature.

Flights: 318
Airline: Lufthansa 97/317 - 31%
Aircraft: Easily A320-200 - 68+
Registration: D-AINA and D-DAIPL 3 - 0.9% each
Airport: Frankfurt 124 - 19%
Route pair domestic: FRA-HAM 41 - 13%
Route pair international: FRA-AUH 6 - 1.9%
Class: Y 311/318 - 97%
Year: 2015 93/318 - 29%

Cool thread. I've been properly logging flights since 1979 and I have ticket jackets going back to 1977, plus the one from my very first flight in 1968. My flight log includes some military transport flights as well as some general aviation. The flight total is all inclusive and each flight represents one takeoff/landing.

Here goes:

Flights: 548
Airline: United 73/548 = .133
Aircraft: 737 = 186/548 = .339
Subtype: 737-300 = 61/548 = .111
Registration: Frontier A321s N705FR & N712FR 4x each = .007 each. I've also got six segments on USAF C-5B 87-0034 for .010
Airport: PHX 79 departures = .144
Route Pair: PHX-DEN = 51 total segments both ways .09
Class: Y mostly but a few F and J upgrades as well as some military flights.
Year: 2016. I've gone crazy this year flying...all on my dime. I have 116 flight segments so far = .21 of total. I have several more flights scheduled on four new airlines for me with two new types and two new sub-types. I can't imagine I'd ever attempt to match this level of personal airline flying.

I love these topics.

Total flights since 2011 = 124 (way less than I would like)
Airline: Emirates 37/124, Qatar 24/124
Year: 2016 = 44/124 (with quite a few more to come)
Aircraft: 777 = 47/124
Subtype: 77W = 31 / 124
Airport: DXB
Route pair: DXB-RUH = 24/124

Based on 318 logged flight segments:
Airline: Delta (and DL Connection), 65%
Aircraft Type: CRJ family, 26% (A32x family next at 20%)
Aircraft Subtype: CRJ-200, 17%
Year: 2013, 19%
Airport*: SLC, 42%
Route pair: SLC-BZN, 13%

I don't know about the rest of you, but my airport numbers represent that a segment either started or ended at that airport. So 42% of my lifetime segments either started or ended at SLC. SLC is my current and former home airport, and it was a frequent connection point when I lived elsewhere. #2 is MSP (former base and also frequent connection point) at 38% of segments. #3 is BZN (former home base) at 29% of segments. I keep my own log in a spreadsheet :).

I have no records from before the '90s, and I was a kid in the '70s and '80s so I have only vague memories and no details. So this list starts when I started paying for my own flights:

Flights since 1990: 118

Aircraft: Boeing 717-200 31.4% (37/118)
Home Airport: ORF 11.9% (28/118)
Away Airport: ATL 30.5% (72/118)
Route pair: PHF-ATL 10.2% (12/118)
Longest flight: IAD-KEF (& return) 2,796 mi
Shortest flight: (tie) PHL-MDT & CLT-GSO, 83 mi

OK I'm game. Guess where I work? I'll also add distance since I find that of some importance.

Airline (By Distance): Alaska Airlines 39.3% (286,535/729,297)

Year: 2005 6.7% (39/534)
Year (Distance): 2010 7.5% (55,210/729,297)

I've only kept track of registration the last 8 years so it's not significant, the most I've registered on one aircraft 3x which I've done on 10 aircraft. I also consider the MD-82/83 the same subtype, you would only know the difference if you knew the registration or the airline flying it. From the exterior there is no difference.

Airline by number of flights: American Airlines (though to be fair it should probably be UA right behind since a significant number of AA flights were operated by BA, and chosen for that very reason - corporate contract with AA, not BA).
Airline by distance: Singapore Airlines
Aircraft: A320-200
Airport: DFW
City pair: DFW-LAS
Shortest flight: HPN-PHL
Longest flight: EWR-SIN
