For AC, YYC-YHZ is longer, as mentioned.[/quote]

AC has several other A319/320 nonstop routes longer than YYT-LHR. A few that come to mind: YUL-LAX, YUL-SFO, YYZ-SJO.

They do, but always with a stop in SNN where it's being refueled. The runway in LCY is too short to allow for such a long flight. SNN-JFK is still a long flight, but not as long as LCY-JFK.

LCY incurred weight restrictions on larger aircraft, particularly the A318. For that reason, BA used a 32 business class configurated A318, and used only small amount of fuel on the outbound leg.

Sadly, the use of narrowbody for long-haul low-yield routes is the future. I'm not talking about a WOW Air/Icelandair/Copa kind of network, but airlines fitting planes to markets instead of geography. For example, Qatar flies A319/A320s to many destinations in Europe, as well as Gulf Air and Oman Air. Whereas, of course, Emirates flies an A380 to many of the exact places.

Google Maps shows 98.8 Miles, which is longer than the 91.6 miles between GSP-CLT (served 8X daily by AA regional carriers on most weekdays) . Although I'm sure no one is going to fly to DXB for work if they live in AUH (or vice-versa), you'd think there would be some demand between the two for connecting traffic.

American uses a mix of 757/763/772 on MIA-MCO. That's blocked at just under an hour.

I'm sure it didn't take in local traffic (as most of those mentioned above wouldn't either). But, it was part of the schedule.

Yes the UA DC-10 DEN-COS-DEN did carry local traffic. There would be no reason not to. It appears in the October 1991 OAG. UA146 departed DEN 1900, arrived COS 1936, daily except Saturday. It originated LAX. The aircraft overnighted at COS and operated as UA293 the next morning, daily except Sunday, departed COS 0710, arrived DEN 0745 and continued to SEA at 0835.

You're right. I guess I meant that there was probably nobody actually paying for a commuting flight from DEN to COS or vice versa, it was connecting or through passengers, as you say.

The longest route I have flown is on an ERJ 145 of CO from YYZ to IAH. This was one of the worst flights I have ever experienced. The shortest route on the largest aircraft was a B777 flight on DL from ATL - MCO. That was fun.

WestJet use 737-700s across the Atlantic from Glasgow-Halifax. And you all thought 757s were bad for transcontinental flights. On the other hand, I think there's a 767 every day going from Edinburgh-London Heathrow.

I think you mean "intercontinental" (between two continents), not "transcontinental" (across the same continent).

WestJet also uses the 737-700 on St. John's-Dublin, their first and shortest transatlantic route, shorter than quite a few of their domestic routes.

AA DC-10 flew DFW-IAH-DFW in the 80's. Maybe DFW-SAT? They also had a 767 LAX-SAN tag to the IAD-LAX flight.

HA with some regularity will fly A330s and 767s on flights like HNL-OGG (which takes a whopping 15 minutes on a bad day). Many of these are repositioning flights, but they are sold to the public and do happen with some frequency.

Just FYI, BA428/BA429 LHR-AMS-LHR is with a 763 currently, which is shorter than LHR-EDI

Currently SYD-BNE is almost exclusively B738s on QF - I travelled on two flights recently, when I originally booked them (specifically), they were A330s but come the time to fly there were downgraded.
But QF 500/2/4/6/8/10/2/6/20/4/8/30/2/6/8/40/4/8/54/6/62 certainly on weekdays at least are only B738s

SYD-MEL is predominately B738s too .....QF401/3/7/11/3/7/9/21/3/7/31/5/9/43/5/7/53/5/9/61/3/5/79/89 whilst only QF405/9/15/29/41/9/51/93 and 7 are A330s

Taking of SYD-AKL, there's also the LA 789 and EK A380 too

LUX-SCN is sometimes subbed by a 738 instead of the usual Q400. For 50miles the 738 is pretty big and the fight takes between 10 and 20mins

I didn't realize PD flies YTZ-MLB with Q400s...that's pretty incredible

There actually is a pretty reasonable amount of demand to fly Etihad from residents of Dubai & for Emirates from Abu Dhabi.
To cater to this, Etihad offers a shuttle bus from its travel hub in Dubai (with IATA code XNB) and you also can ticket it as such. The service will show equipment as "Bus" and there will be no flight number. In my experience, booking from XNB will often show ridiculous options to facilitate "connections" with your flight from Abu Dhabi. You can also check-in luggage at the travel hub (except flights to the US). The buses from XNB to AUH have been full whenever I've traveled which is, admittedly, not frequent.

If you are flying Etihad to India, it will operate from DXB with an Etihad codeshare number & will be operated by Jet Airways.

As for how Emirates does it on their side, I do not know (since I've never had to use it) but they do have a shuttle service for passengers from Abu Dhabi & Al Ain - I don't know whether it is as structured as Etihad or whether it is simply a case of going to a designated location and then boarding.

Similarly, there are shuttles operating from DXB to SHJ operated by Air Arabia.

Given short distances, excellent roads and cheap petrol, flying intercity in the UAE is not too worthwhile (unless doing the whole Rotanajet thing to Sir Bani Yas island).
The only route I can imagine being even remotely needed is from Ras Al Khaimah to Abu Dhabi (opposite ends of the country, approximately 4-6 hours by road depending on your speeding preferences).

But yes to your point, there is no need / interest for an AUH-DXB O&D route.

Big Equipment Short Route has to go to DHL who fly the A300-600 between London Luton (LTN) and Heathrow (LHR). About 10 mins tops flight time with distance can't be more than 30nm.

Back in the 70´s - 80´s, Mexicana Airlines used to fly MEX-ACA and GDL-LAP (130nm and 300nm respectively) with DC10-15. There were also some quick jumps like CUN-CZM, MEX-UPN, GDL-PVR (no more than 30 min flight) operated with B727.

On the other side, Mexicana also operated from MEX to MIA, DEN and LAS with F-100.

BA used to operate KIN-MBJ using 777-200ERs (before that DC-10s) up to March 2002, distance 82 miles.

BWIA for a while did TAB-POS using TriStars, 52 miles.

Does LX fly any 77Ws or 330/340s on Le Pendulair to cycle the aircraft through?

There are no flights between DXB and AUH. They are around 1h30 to drive - not even 90 miles apart from city center to city center.

Shortest widebody flights scheduled out there (for June) are as follows:
BA ANU-SKB, 2x/wk, 777, 63 miles
Dragonair CAN-HKG, daily, A330-300, 71 miles
Ethopian SSG-DLA, 3x/wk, 787-8, 72 miles
BA/KLM/QR DOH-BAH, BA daily 777, QR 1x/wk 788, KL 5x/wk 332, 91 miles

Most of these are simple tag-ons with the exception of the 1x/wk QR 788 and the Dragonair flight, which surely is just to facilitate connections versus crossing the landborder and traversing all of Hong Kong to reach the airport facilities there.

Multiple daily service on EK between DXB and MCT which is longer than those in your list but at 217 miles is shorter than DXB-DOH

Our favorites at EK flew an A380 on DXB-DOH for a bit, IIRC. They still fly A380 DXB-KWI, which would be the shortest route on the biggest plane.
I think PIT-CDG is a decent contestant for long NB route, as is the former NW DTW-DUS, which the crazy crowd here drools over
