Restrictions At John Wayne

Thu May 27, 1999 5:14 am

Hi, I've been wondering for a while now, what type of jetcraft are allowed into John Wayne, Orange Coutny (SNA)? I hear the airport poses some of the strictest noise level restrictions in the world because of its downtown location. I've seen photos of 727s and 737s there, what about bigger jets like 757, 767, 777 etc? Fly 757-200!

I know that United flys in there with a 757. My uncle lives about 5 miles from SNA and he says that takeoffs there are spectacular, with a 35 degree climb compared to 20 or so on a normal departure. Once at about 2000 agl (which happens quite quickly) the pilots throttle back to almost nothing and climb slowly at low airspeed until they are out of the noise restricted area.

America West flies 757s in there. FedEx (I believe) flies A310s in there.

767's are allowed to fly in there. UA used to fly their 767-200's in there from ORD daily.
