Stapleton?

I know this is old news, but what were the main reasons the Stapleton Int'l airport was shut down in Denver? Was it done to make way for Denver Int'l?

Some say it was because a bigger airport was needed. I think it was a waste to build DIA. It's pretty and all, but i liked Stapleton just fine. Wasn't Frederico Pena from Denver? maybe he helpedget funding for DIA.

It was mainly because the city had grown around Stapleton. If you look at its site, it is surrounded by water towers, smoke stacks, factories, etc. Also, during times of certain wx, only one runway could be used at once. So, they shut down Stapleton to build a new airport far away from the city (even though I live in Denver, it is almost 60mi to DEN) and one with greater effiency.
