It must have been out of range as it popped up on Flightradar about 180 miles west of GUM.

I think that the last one from QPG arrived already-painted. Don't know for sure about this one.

What's up with the DHL DC-9 sitting on the ramp in ILN? Is DHL getting ready to put it back in service and get the rest of the retired DC-9 fleet back operational? With DHL's small loads, a DC-9 size jet would be ideal.

Snark alert! I enjoy your sense of humor.

For those who are curious about the DC9s, of the 75-ish DC9s that Airborne (and later DHL America) once operated, all but about 15 have been scrapped, and of those, only a handful are still regularly flown by the companies that took them, notably Everts and KFS. The Everts ones don't see much use, but KFS gives their old girl a good regular workout. 916CK is 49 years old, and still sees probably 40 flights per month, usually of an hour or two each.

Good find! Great photo.

Now we will see where it goes for paint: RME as has been typical, or another provider like that last IAI/Bedek one.

N353AZ is apparently in service as of 6/14. Flew the night of the 13th from ILN-CVG. That's the 7th 767-300 of the 8 that Amazon leased from CAM to be flown by ATI.

The final one, which was converted from 386AA, is 337AZ. It has been at TLV basically long enough to be converted, but may be being held up by the fact that IAI/Bedek apparently still hasn't received their STC for wingletted 767-300s.

IAI has been saying for months that the STC is just around the corner, and now there are at least two CAM 767-300s there for ATI's Amazon contract that have winglets (337AZ and 395CM, the latter of which is one of two that ATI will maintain for now as a spare), and one Titan one (N1373A). Publicly, at least, it's just crickets from IAI as to what's happening with them.

Meanwhile, IAI/Bedek has apparently sub-contracted with Mexicana MRO Services at MEX to do pax-to-freighter conversions of 767-300s. First one to be inducted by end of June. A press release says that Mexicana's people have been training in Israel on how to do the work. Bedek says they are "up to their necks in work", and that Mexicana structural engineers, electricians, mechanics and maintenance engineers can take some of the load off. Will be interesting to see if any of the Atlas or ATSG 767-300s go there for conversion. http://www.iai.co.il/2013/32981-48493-en/MediaRoom.aspx

And in fact it is on the way to AMA for paint, arriving about 9:45am CDT. So that means that once again Leading Edge, rather than Premier in RME, will be doing the painting.

So figure it will be out in about two weeks, or about 6/28/17.

One thing that will be interesting to see is whether the IAI/Bedek conversions that are done in MEX typically will be returned painted, as are the BCFs that come from QPG. Bedek's conversion subcontractor, Mexicana MRO Services, has a substantial painting facility in MEX that can handle a 767-300, so they have the in-house ability to deliver the thing painted if the customer wants it. But whether the customer wants it is the question; there's likely a quality/value/reliability proposition underlying the fact that Dean Baldwin has painted pretty-much every Airborne/ABX/ATSG aircraft for many years, for example.

(Interestingly, Mexicana MRO has a lot of outdoor tarmac space -- like over 1.5mm sq ft which they consider to be 40 positions -- but their maintenance hangar can only fit one widebody (and like 4 narrowbodies with it) at a time. I'm going to be curious to see how that affects their present and potential conversion throughput.)

Had my second package come via Prime Air, was a simple lemon squeezer, microplane and a merlot infused salt. Very light and rather small box.

Went SKF-CVG-TPA.

I now order from Amazon more to see if I can get my packages onto a Amazon flight.

(Edited to include HKCanadaExpat's excellent information in the next post.)

Not for nothin', but it looks like GTI may be adding two new routes as early as today. The two newest conversions, N1229A and N1321A, moved from where they were being held (in MIA) to two different Amazon stations that did not currently have GTI service for Prime Air. 1229A went to CLT and 1321A went to DFW.

GTI currently has 6 in-service Amazon Prime aircraft, but was only covering three routes with them (and one spare) until today. 1181A should be aboard in 2-3 weeks. After that, except for 1709A, which is a wild card, probably no new frames until August, which should see 2-3 more new frames.

Summary:

In service:
1997A
1049A
1093A
1217A
1229A
1321A

In paint post-conversion:

1181A (at AMA)

De-mothballing, rehab and paint:
1709A (at GYR) (already a freighter)

In conversion:
1361A (at QPG since 4/3)
1373A (at TLV since 2/20, has winglets)
1327A (at TLV since 3/15, no winglets)
1399A (at TLV since 5/8, no winglets)
1381A (at QPG since 6/9)

Stored:
1427A (at LDE)

Okay, so GTI route developments:

N1321A started a new GTI route today. DFW-CVG-DFW. GTI3025/3026.

ATI was already flying this route with a 767-200, and those flights continued today, so maybe this is a second section rather than a replacement.

N1229A appears to have stepped in at CLT this morning on ONT-CLT-ABE-ONT. The ATI flight on a 767-200 did not run today, instead replaced by GTI with a new flight number series. The GTI flights are for sure 3515 and 3516 on the CLT-ABE and ABE-ONT legs, respectively. I'm guessing GTI3513 on the ONT-CLT leg, because it's eastbound and eastbound GTI flights for Amazon use odd flight numbers (and westbound flight use even numbers).

Meanwhile, N763CX, the ATI 767-200 that had been covering the ONT-CLT-ABE-ONT route for ATI (on now-discontinued flights ATN3703/3705/3706 -- similar numbers, get it?), flew to SKF as a deadhead (flight ATN9200), So either it's going to replace N714AX on the SKF-CVG-SKF route, or it's going to start a new one. Both aircraft are now at SKF.

On ATI, there are probably more, but so far I noticed that ABE-CVG-ABE (3282/3281) seems to have upgraded to a 767-300. N353AZ, the newest ATI 767-300 conversion, had flown into CVG on Tuesday night from ILN, and picked up the CVG-ABE leg today.

Summary of June 15 Changes

Atlas Air

Adds ONT-CLT-ABE-ONT on a 767-300, Flights GTI3513/3515/3516. Replaces the ATI 767-200 that was previously flying that route.
Adds DFW-CVG-DFW on a 767-300, Flights 3025/3026. New service. Additional to the ATI 767-200 already flying that route.

These two new routes put N1229A and N1321A into regular service. GTI now has six in-service Amazon Prime aircraft, all 767-300s, flying 5 routes, and one spare, usually ready for service at CVG. A seventh Prime Air 767-300 (N1181A) should be in-service in less than two weeks, and is currently in paint at Leading Edge in AMA.

Air Transport International

Deletes ONT-CLT-ABE-ONT on a 767-200, Flights ATN3503/3507/3506. Replaced by a GTI 767-300.
Upgauges ABE-DFW-ABE from a 767-200 to a 767-300. Same flight numbers as before.
Adds SKF-BWI-SKF on a 767-200, Flights ATN3747/3746. New service.

These route changes put N353AZ into regular service, and make one 767-200 a spare. ATN now has 14 in-service Amazon Prime aircraft, seven of which are 767-200s and seven of which are 767-300s. ATN is flying 11 Amazon routes: 5 767-200 routes and 6 767-300 routes, with 14 aircraft. One 767-300 (currently 307AZ) is a spare, usually ready for service at ONT. One 767-200 (791AX) is in c-check at ILN. One 767-200 (currently N255CM) is now a spare.

ABX Air

I did not see any June 15 changes at ABX Air. ABX Air is currently flying 6 Amazon Prime routes, using its fleet of 18 767-200s. Nine (9) of those aircraft are in DHL colors, and 9 are not. Usually, but not always, the Amazon routes are flown with non-DHL-colors aircraft. About 12 of the aircraft have seen Amazon flights in the past couple of months, with 8 or 9 of them most-often used. Today, the aircraft serving Amazon were 767AX, 768AX, 774AX, 750AX, 749AX and 740AX. A few of these see almost-daily service for Amazon (but still get swapped onto DHL occasionally), and the rest do not.

I believe ATI did a rescue flight for Atlas today. 307AZ worked CVG to ONT as ATN4204 which is a non-standard flight number for ATI.

Yochai: Any word on AIA/Bedek's STC for wingletted aircraft? N337AZ has been in TLV for more than 6 months, and so should be done by now, but it has winglets, and so presumably is unable to be released. I'm also curious about how much work IAI was comfortable doing on it, given that there may need to be changes if the STC so requires... C-check? Sure. Other conversion work? Unsure.

The first B767-300 winglet conversion to roll out of IAI BEDEK is N284DH which has been stored in Tel Aviv for 1 year so that should be out of conversion soon

Still no updates on the 767-3WL STC, N284DH is in deep storage configuration (even has its freshly installed cargo door already painted in TUI light blue to match the rest of the fuselage), however works still seem to take place on the rest of the 76W's currently at IAI Bedek

Yes 313 is an ATI aircraft. All Prime Air painted planes with AZ tail numbers are ATI and all ending with just A are Atlas aircraft.

N1217A on the ABE turn this week. Looks great with the winglets. I personally think the Prime Air w/ winglets are some of the sharpest looking 763s out there. Fortunate ABE is a part of this network.

So interesting! So it's done but no STC yet? I wonder if it has to fly as an "Experimental" aircraft.

Well, when/if 337AZ is delivered, that will complete the 8 767-300s and 12 767-200s required from ATI and ABX under the Amazon contract. It seems like yesterday that the little experiment at ILN was taking place. Although there are now 20 aircraft working on the ATI/ABX side, there are only 17 routes currently being run by them. As the 2 spare 767-300s in ATI paint (395CM and 396CM) come on later this year, presumably more routes will be handled by the existing fleet.

On the GTI side, N1181A, formerly of Asiana and Mega Global Air, is done with paint at AMA and on its way today to MIA.

That should be it for new aircraft on the GTI side until August, when three should come on in Aug/Sept. (This doesn't count 1709A, which is already a freighter and is being de-mothballed and painted.)

Great news, thank you, Yochai. I figured it would be soon for 353. When a plane pops up on our fleet status page (as 353 did about a week ago) it usually means it will be coming home in a week or two. Sounds like that is still the case. Glad that IAI has the STC figured out as well. Much appreciated!

Speaking of 353 and the Fleet Status Page: What's UP with that a/c? Been sitting in ILN for almost 9 days.

Entered revenue service on 6/14. Flew fewer than 6 days, then back to ILN on 6/20, where it's been ever since...
