Pre-assembly is clearly running at 6 per month now. Spirit AeroSystems delivered 19 A350 ship sets in Q4 2016.

What is notable in the chart is that for Q4 2016 the number of shipsets delivered was the same for the B777 as for the A350, both at 19 shipsets.

The -1000 test program appears to be racking up the hours. MIL is off on it's 42 flight. The cabin equipped bird is preparing for the first flight.

Has Airbus published any update?

Love how spacious it looks!! Reminds me of when 777's were 3-3-3. A350 will be my plane of choice for long-haul in Y, that and the A380. Glad we finally have a growing alternative to the sardine-class 777s!

I agree with you I have spent a lot time over the years flying longhaul. Most of it has been with Emirates Airlines as the have been my airline of choice. 332/343/345 plus 772/773/77W and all ER/ULR models. By far for me the biggest game changer came was when Emirates brought the A380 into service. It takes the flying experience to a different level, quiet, spacious in all classes, and over the years it has improved. The A350 was a great experience and a lovely aeroplane. The A380 is something else.

Since December I'm reading that Azul won't take the 3 A350s they have ordered. Yesterday, Brazilian websites dedicated to aviation started to report the same and from what I read HNA group will take those three too*, anybody here have any idea what will happen to them?

*When this started to be reported in Brazil forums, they said that Azul may take the 3 A350s, but will store them until HNA Group takes them.

From 7th Feb Flightglobal:

Airbus’s two main ramp-up efforts had a quiet start to 2017, with only a single A350 and two A320neos being delivered.

The January production figures disclosed by the airframer contrast with those of the previous month, December 2016, when Airbus delivered 15 A350s and 25 A320neos.

I wonder if the pointless scrabble to get deliveries into the last month of the year rather than the first month of the next year is very disruptive to production. I find this a pretty dumb way of doing things since you're robbing 2017 Peter to pay 2016 Paul, so compromising 2017 figures. Of course if you repeat the stupidity in Dec 2017 you can recover that loss but what useful result is produced by making your operation more expensive in this manner?

Airbus know this and are working to eliminate the December rush - but it does seem to be quite ingrained.

There seem to be a good few frames on the flight line now and moving towards completion. I expect that there will be 4 or 5 deliveries in February and expect that rate to be held/increase as we go through the year. There will be a rush in December but hopefully much reduced from this year.

December is always the most busiest month and that is probably not going to change anytime soon. So expect another surge in December 2017, just as we had last year, and the year before, and the year before that, etc.

Yes, I'm aware this happens. I just wonder why the people managing a business like this choose to incur extra costs of 100's of thousands of euros / millions of euros doing this. If aircraft sales were seasonal (like say ice cream where you need to get it to the customer so it can be sold in the summer) I could understand but I know of no reason why customers should find December a much better month to receive delivery than January. Bear in mind, though, that I'm neither an accountant nor in a marketing/sales position so I have not learnt how to, nor feel pressurised to do things in an insane ("It's a good idea to avoidably increase costs") manner.

You also clean out the workshop on Fridays. This usually is a concerted effort of all involved.

Here you have the situation that an underperforming supplier has finally dumped his material commitment at your doorstep: "ha made the deadline, finished, horray!" Getting your inventory fitted out finally and to customers ASAP is the right thing to do.
Staging areas are cleaned out and you can write a bunch of bills to customers.

But you still comment twice. It is very simple, investors think in quarters and years, bonuses depends on the time frame. And if remember the mad discussion here on A.net if Airbus manages to deliver 50 A350 in 2016 and that the heaven would fall down and the earth erupt and every promise broken if they only managed 49, than I am astonished that you ask this question.

To me investors think very simply.

I think investors would make more money if they were not so focussed on the short term but I appreciate that is not what happens in a lot of places / much of the time.

It also depend on where in the production chain you look at, adjusted for the 1-2 holiday, the flow through the FAL is stable and does not follow the rush and droughts as we see in the deliveries.

It is important to Airbus because their reporting and financial year ends in December - so it affects the whole company and its share price. But I agree, they must try to work harder all year round so that there is less of a mad rush in December.

Equally or more important for airlines as the asset can be depreciated in the books if delivered before end of the year.

There was a technical issue, forcing the crew to return early.

Yes seems from fr that possible pressurisation issue as quick descent from 20000. Thats what these certification programmes are there for to ensure the bugs get sorted.

Here's a reliable source about the future of Azul fleet until 2020: https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data ... 992df1.htm (page 131). They don't expect to operate the A350 despite the three orders.

Nice find.

Well that settles it.

Interesting that Airbus painted the winglets in Azul livery. Must have been a last minute cancellation, similar like SriLankan Airlines.
