I hope they use a wider fuselage instead of a further stretch. With the Beluga XL being a meter wider, that easily adds another row front-to-back.
With the first Beluga XL going into service around 2019, fuselage sections could start arriving as soon as then.
Should lower costs since everything else is shared.

I didn't know that. I thought it would be less certification since it would use the same wings, vtp, engines, mlg etc.

I'm sure it would be a lot cheaper than a completely new aircraft as the systems and enginges etc are certified yet. But the combination is new, ergo prototypes, testing.
You can't put a 737 fuselage on an A320s wing.

Correct. There is of course a reason why the 737 has seen five or six different lengths in fuselage, but no difference in width from 737-100 to 737 max-10. Heck, even the fuselage width of 707, 727, 757 were pretty much the same as the current 737 . . .

Same on the A330/340, which shared the same cross section as the mother of all Airbus' :A300.

And offers little benefit. There is no point in having a -900 and especially dusting off the -800 with a wider fuselage as they would just closely match the current -1000/-900 (respectively) in capacity, assuming that by wider fuselage you mean make 10Y acceptable by most airlines. Which means you are just making it for a stretch and decreasing commonality (both for airlines, and for Airbus in regards to production) with the rest of the family.

Has anyone logged the total hours completed by the three -1000 aircraft? I believe around 1600 hours was the estimate for certification and between them they must be close to 300 hours to date. The standard versions of FR restricts retrospective calculation ...anyone with the full version could go back over several months to establish.

Since about a week ago you could suddenly see a lot of movement (https://sites.google.com/site/a350xwbpr ... ction-list) where many Qatar frames were moved to Station 20 (Cabin Fit). Maybe the rumor that they were waiting for the new J-class product was accurate.

Now that QR have released their updated business class, which will go into all of the fleet. Perhaps, these aircraft have been waiting for this?

QR have, however, stated that a QR new build 77W in June (or was it July?) would be the first aircraft with the new J. So, that timing might seem a bit weird. Another 3-4 months of waiting for the A350 would seem odd, unless the delivery times for these J seats was that long.

Seems quite prudent for the aircraft to be installed with the new J, rather than go into service, and 6 months down the line, need to be refitted.

Quite prudent indeed… I wonder, however, if it is the case, whether it is Airbus or Qatar that is footing the bill for having all those undelivered planes…
