Does anybody know why LX55381 (according to FR24) A343 HB-JMG is circling at PUY? Is it Training or maintenance or else?

If they are circling it's most likely training for pilots doing the transition on to the A340. CHR and PUY are often used for training and BUD for maintenance recently.

Vueling has opened reservations for flights to ZRH in W16/17 with following destinations and frequencies (change to W15/16 in brackets):

BCN 10/7 (-)
LTN 7/7 (+7)
LIS 6/7 (+6)
FCO 5/7 (+5)
OPO 3/7 (+3)
AGP 3/7 (-)
LPA 2/7 (+2)
TFS 2/7 (+2)
ALC 2/7 (+2)
ACE 1/7 (+1)

Overall 40 departures per week (compared to 13 in W15/16). One aircraft will be based in ZRH flying ZRH-LTN-ZRH-LIS-ZRH and there's still room to operate another route after the arrival of the aircraft from LIS.

Just now on FR24: LX92 to GRU operated by an A343 w/ registration HB-JMJ seems to have a technical problem and is descending now after four holding patterns (I guess where they dumped fuel) near the coast of BCN. No emergency squawk as of now and it seems they are diverting to BCN.

http://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/hb-jmj#9e768ac

Update: Landed safely in BCN on runway 25R.

Swiss painted CSeries test aircraft will fly into ZRH from DUB this afternoon with some media and all Star Alliance airlines CEOs.

LX7092 is taking off any minute now from ZRH. Delay of approx. 15 hours and 12 flight hours to go. Very unfortunate if passengers onboard.

so the pax had to stay overnight in BCN, return to ZRH to catch a new ZRH-GRU flight?
I would think it would be easier to ferry a replacement aircraft to BCN and continue from there...

Just read that EZY is starting 3 new routes from ZRH.

ZRH - LIS (Starts 31st of August - 3 weekly)
ZRH - AMS (Starts 31st of October - 3 weekly)
ZRH - SFX (Starts 31st of October - 6 weekly)

I see EZY growing slowly at ZRH! Will this mean a bit more of competition to legacy carriers and some better prices for all of us who live in ZRH?

Some exciting and some disappointing route news out of Switzerland:

New routes/ Frequency increases:
- In February 2017 Swiss will operate Saturday-only services between Sion(SIR) and London City using Helvetic's E190! Positioning flights from ZRH to SIR and back are also bookable starting from CHF 70. From 24 December LX will also operate Saturday-only services between ZRH and London Gatwick using A320 aircraft

- Alitalia increases frequency on the ZRH-FCO route to 12 weekly and permanently upgauges the evening flight to an A319 from the start of the Winter timetable

- Edelweiss is to start flights from ZRH to SAN, CUN and SJO in Spring 2017 with 2 weekly A340 flights each (was announced in another thread already)

- Air Berlin start once-weekly flights from ZRH to La Palma (Canary Islands) from the beginning of October operated by Niki A320. This is a new destination for ZRH. AB will also add some rotations from ZRH to KEF around Christmas 2016

- Germania will also add flights to La Palma (1/(7). In addition it will inaugurate FNC (2/7), LPA (2/7), RVN (2/7), AGA (1/7), HRG (1/7), FUE (1/7). It will also maintain flights to BEY (2/7), PMI (3/7), LCA (2/7 until December 2016) and VNO (2/7) started in Summer 2016

- easyJet will start flights between GVA and MUC (4/7), INV (1/7), KRK (2/7) and FUE (2/7) with the beginning of the winter timetable. From Basel EZS will add once-weekly flights to FNC

- Wizzair has announced new flights from BSL to SOF starting in Dec 16

Route cancellations:
- LX will seasonally terminate 2x daily flights from ZRH to IST and seasonal flights (planned until November) to ADB with the start of the winter timetable. The airline will also cease flights to Sarajevo, which was until now served 3x weekly. ZAG is also rumored to be seasonally terminated (currently 4 weekly flights)

- Wizzair has terminated flights from Cluj to BSL and GVA (each served 2x weekly)

Transavia / HV will start 3x weekly AMS-ZRH as per JAN 2017.

Would have thought it was phased out. Especially since the IX-series are older than the IY-series.

IXO should be back around end of the month.

6 of the 9 "Y" are leased and will be phases out in parallel with the own "X"... so phase out of the ARJs is more depending on lease contracts than on aircraft's age (same with the A340s).

There seems to have been a mechanical issue with the A333 HB-JHG operating flight LX052 from ZRH to BOS. Saw on flightradar 24 that the plane turned back towards ZRH off the UK coast and after circled over Switzerland a few hours before it landed some minutes ago, approx 4.5 hours after it dparted

According to 2 Swiss Sunday papers, LX is under pressure from LH to improve profitability at GVA over the next 2 years. Apparently, LX will have to drop 11 out of it's present 41 routes and this doesn't help by 2018, LX will have to pull out of GVA completely ( probably except for the JFK run and feeder flights to ZRH). Seems there is a plan to operate some of the cancelled European routes by Eurowings as from 2018.
GVA is well used to this treatment after 1996 ( Swissair ) and LX a first time after it was taken over by LH. Well, I guess Easyjet will be laughing all the way to the bank...

I'm really not familiar with the numbers, but IMHO withdrawing from GVA is inevitable - except for the ZRH feeder flights and JFK. Switzerland may be simply to small to operate from two hubs.

The idea of LX was not to establish a 2nd hub but simply to gain market share in Switzerland. LX is not growing in ZRH and will have limited opportunities in the future. GVA was seen as an alternative growth opportunity.

LX is now better perceived in Romandie but the current product is very badly planned. Nobody understand the choice of destinations and the schedule. With C-Series and a properly planning LX could profitable in GVA. Let's replace the existing planes, fire the GVA management and get a proper scheduler in GVA. It will be fine in 2 years for sure. So many other airlines can do it, why not LX

OK, I agree mainly with you, the only problem is that the schedulers sit in ZRH and take orders from FRA...

I don't know how many B77W are ordered, if 9 or 10.
But just yesterday I saw on their homepage that they are looking for a "Manager A340 Cabin Refurbishment Project" and in the description they writing:
..."Several A340-300 will for the time being be further operated by SWISS and in order to live up to the SWISS premium brand positioning the cabin of these aircraft shall be refurbished. This will mean new seats in all classes (Economy, Business and First), new galleys, upgrade of the inflight entertainment system as well as introduction of customer connectivity on board."...

So I guess, they will refurbish the remaining A340 completely and they will get a whole new cabin, IFE, Internet,...

What's the plan for the rest of the 9 CS100 that Swiss is supposed to get this year? They clearly need to step up their game in delivering these. I could imagine that they will deliver 2 a month from October.
Anyone with reliable information?

Only 7 out of 15 CSERIES a/c will be delivered this year. So 5 to go till years end!

Will they deliver any BCS3 to Air Baltic? That's a good question!

On top of the C series I don't know how smoothly the entry in to service of the B77W's is going for LX. Almost weekly there are huge delays and or cancellations like yesterday on the LX178, might have even been the first ever scheduled flight with that aircraft on that route. Given the 77W is on the market for many years I am wondering why there seem to be quite some technical issues with it. Maybe I am biest and prefer Airbus however the introduction of the A333 and A343's caused less cancellations if any or technical delays. Hope the 77W will become as reliable as the Airbus fleet for LX very soon.

The LX178 had to be cancelled due to a sick pilot. Not a technical issue.
I didn't hear the 777 introduction is technical wise a big issue in Zurich. One problem for LX might be that with a 777 fleet of only 6 a/c, operation is a callenge. Eg. late evening departures at ZRH need to depart on time before the night ban. Even a sick Commander and a short standby situation can cause long delays or even cancellations.
