Today, 12.04.2016 will be the first commercial flights for HB-IOO (the SWISS A321 with Sharklets)

And HB-JHQ (new WK A333E) had its first revenue flight to TPA yesterday

In other news, some traffic figures from ZRH and GVA for March16:

ZRH
Pax: 2,064,221 +3.8%
Movements: 21,214 +0.7%

GVA
Pax: 1,576,142 +6% --> GVA handled more than 1.5m pax in one month for the first time in its existence!
Movements: 16,871 -1.5%

LX
Pax: 1,292,192 -0.9%
Load factor: 77.6% -4%

I'm sort of surprised by the decline in pax numbers and load factor at LX. Given that the traditionally strong easter holiday weekend was in March this year I was expecting better numbers. On the other hand nice to see that ZRH is able to grow despite their main airline's numbers declining.

Interesting that ZRH, despite being the most important airport in Switzerland, managed to increase passenger numbers by approx. 72 000 only while GVA increased by about 90 000. Could this mean that ZRH is losing out LCC traffic to the close-by BSL which has a much better LCC offer with EZS ( U2) and FR ? Are BSL figures available for this month ?

No BSL figures for March yet but +8% is expected for the full year. January and February were in the same range.

This has certainly been a factor in recent years. LCCs have long avoided ZRH due to the higher landing fees. However, I believe that limited capacity is a more important factor restricting growth at ZRH today. In my opinion, if FR, U2 or VY were able to acquire attractive slots they would've already massively increased their presence in ZRH. On the other hand, this year will finally see a nice increase in LCC operations at ZRH (VY with around 6 additional flights per day, U2 with a new flight to HAM).

It's actually stunning how low the maximum in hourly movements at ZRH are. Today I read (in an analysis done by LX) that ZRH only allows for 1.3 times the movements per hour that GVA has despite having 2 additional runways! On top of growth restrictions, ZRH has in essence become one of the worst airports in Europe in terms of departure delays.

Politics really has to start working on that ASAP by allowing "Straight out RWY16" and increasing the runway length of 10/28 and 14/32 as a first step.

On the other hand, it's only bad during noon. Why isn't LX trying to use the available capacity during the later hours? They just squeezed in an additional BOS rotation (LX54/55) during noon again. I understand though LX is relying on feed for longhaul but why not depart during 1400-1500 or 1800-2000 local time?

It's equally bad during LX' 4-5pm wave. ZRH airport really went from beeing one of the best in Europe to becoming a joke in no time. Only because planes can't fly over the millonair's homes.

It's really sad to see that today the ones standing in the way for ZRH and especially LX to grow are the local population and the government.

Well you're not the only ones although at GVA there is no hub to be developed. Just picked up a leaflet in my letter box which was distributed by the party running our local town council ( less than 3000 inhabitants ..), calling for a meeting and public debate about the nearby airport's future. The reason is that some genius predicted 25 mio pax in 2030 and politicians now claim this is going to double the number of movements... so their slogan is " we can't stand-by idly " and claim that that the nightban would be shortened to accomodate additional capacity. Obviously never heard of larger aircraft and more capacity ! So as you see, you don't have the privilege of ignorant politicians who twist the facts to suit their own purpose.

Afaik the first to leave the fleet must bee HB-JMO (former Air Canada). Has not flown since five days. The 2nd must bei HB-JMN (also former Air Canada). HB-JMI (youngest LX A340) must be under maintenance in ZRH. As both 77W (HB-JNA and HB-JNB) were now active on long haul flights, LX has not too many planes   [also HB-JMJ has not been active since two days].

Because LX needs the rest of the A340 until the first 6 B77W are here. -JMJ to -JMO are leased and 15+ years old and it would not make sense to give them to WK.

They don't need the capacity so far.
The first EDW A340 will have full EDW Cabin by end of November 2016 and start service last week of November.
First week of December IQI will leave the fleet.

So for WS16/17 EDW will have 2x A330-300 and 1x A340-300.

Second EDW A340 will be in service beginning SS17.

GVA will definitely see the CS1 quite soon after EIS. This is just a preliminary schedule and still subject to change.
Good to see a more fixed delivery schedule and EIS date.

I was basing on the press release, but I've seen at least one evening flight on ZRH-GVA loaded as a CS1.

GVA as a base is supposed to transition from Airbus to CS, although Swiss didn't mention that in their press release or give any timeframe.

I would think that LX's first priority when they first receive the CS100 is to quickly replace the Avros. Since most RJ100 routes are from ZRH you will see the bulk of CS100 operations in the beginning at ZRH.

It not uncommon for IB to operate widebodies in GVA these days. I saw a A343 and A330 a few days ago. I wonder why? Is there that much demand?

This is the fourth widebody flight by IB within a week and the third on a A346. Either there is very stromg demand around these holiday weekends or IB is just looking to better utilize their longhaul fleet by adding some European flights. In GVA this has become a rather common occurence, as SR380 already mentioned.

Next wednesday Basel will be host of the Uefa Europa league final between Liverpool and Sevilla FC.

EuroAirport expects more than 80 charter flights to bring in fans. Highlights among them are certainly 2 Wamos 747-400, Virgin Arlantic A330, 2 Privilege Style 777, Thomas Cook, Orbest and Air Europa A330, 2 Azores A310 and many others. A full list of all flights can be found on bsl-mlh-planes.net.

The airport is slot regulated during this day, night curfew has been lifted (most flights return between 0100 and 0400 in the morning) and one runway will be used to park the aircraft.
