New Airline To EVV?

Sat Mar 05, 2016 5:05 am

EVV will be making an announcement on new airline service. Will G4 move to EVV from OWB to serve SFB, PIE, LAS, AZA? Or will it be AA/DL/US adding to their networks?

RE: New Airline To EVV?

AA, DL, and UA all have pretty comprehensive hub access from EVV.

What EVV is lacking is a leisure carrier before I-69 Section 5 is opened soon. The likes of Vectren, Toyota, Old National Bank, Shoe Carnival, and Mead Johnson can only boost EVV's numbers so high. With much of the business travelers using EVV today, leisure travel is the logical next step. FWA, in a slightly bigger area with similar dynamics to EVV, has 40% leisure travelers, up from less than 25% a decade ago before G4 entered.

Another factor is leakage. By the time all of I-69 is complete (and it won't be long), getting from Evansville to IND will be just as easy and almost as fast as getting to SDF. Even today with only Sections 1 through 4 done and Section 5 (of 6) underway, getting to IND is now over an hour faster than it was before.

G4 would be logical, and it could even coexist with OWB; after all, G4 serves a triangle of airports an hour apart just one state over. NK wants to start targeting smaller cities as well, plus EVV was talking with FL when Fornaro was running them. And EVV has been much more aggressive with incentives as of late. ORD (UA) and CLT (AA) were fruits of a much stronger incentive program than what EVV had under their previous head (as in the one that didn't want to offer any extra incentives to G4 because of "fairness to existing carriers").

Of course, if it's G4, remember that they typically announce new routes in multiples. If other airports also have press conferences on Tuesday, there's a very good chance it's G4.
