A350 - Beautiful Take Off

Fri Jan 29, 2016 2:03 am

I was driving down a highway near Philadelphia Airport when I saw a huge plane lift off. It had two engines so I knew it was not a 747. I thought it looked like a huge 777, but it had a different shape and form. It was magnificent. All of a sudden it hit me that it was 10:30 AM and could be QATAR off to DOH. I wondered why their 777 was so much bigger looking but yet looked different. Than I realized it they were to start A350 service to PHL. When I got home I looked at Flightaware and realized it had to be the QATAR 350. It was a BEAUTIFUL sight. I wish I had seen it on the ground but it was incredible in its environment of the air.

Sometimes the beauty of things capture out emotions.

I have not seen the A350 in reality myself but I had comparable experiences when seeing the A340-500 for the first time. Also I had such an experience when coming very close to a B787 (thanks to the bus-service at FRA which luckily drove by the aircraft slowly)which also really made an impression. And that is remarkable since the design of these aircraft was of course known to me from many pictures and videos. It proves to me that seeing a beautiful aircraft for real instead of through pictures or videos can fortunately trigger such positive emotional responses.

I haven´t seen the A350 in reality either but I don´t see how it looks so much bigger than the 777.
It´s actually very similar and the fuselage has a smaller diameter.
I´m looking forward seeing one.
QR is supposed to bring it to TXL soon.

I remember seeing it departing out of CPH but it was night time. All I saw was something that looked like a large aircraft departing, but it had to be an Airbus based on how the anti collision lights were flashing - and sure enough, it was apparently the Finnair A350 departing that I saw, when I checked FR24.

I also saw the A350 in daylight in Dublin a few months ago. It looked a bit too short in my opinion. I can't wait to see the A350-1000.

Airbus has finally produced a beauty. Lets admit it, the A300 through to the A380 are not really lookers, but are very functional. In the A350, I see the most beautiful plane since the Caravelle.

What?

You are of course entitled to your opinion but you should not state it as a fact since beauty is a very
subjective thing, You might not find them good looking but I and many other will disagree.

IMO the A330 and A340 are probably the best looking jet liner built (so far). Especially the A345 is a very
beautiful looking aircraft, In the same way I don't find the B747 particular good looking but you
would quite likely disagree.

Ironically, I think the reverse. I thought those were all great looking (except maybe the 380, just eh), but I think the A350 is hideous. It's proportions are all wrong, from its awkward fuselage shape, to the skinny taper toward the tail, the lack of sweep on the front of the vertical stabilizer, the squinchy nose that's too low down and of course, above all, the damn eyeliner! Horrible, and no one has given an indisputable answer as to why it is necessary. That black eye around the cockpit just makes otherwise beautiful liveries look bad.

A recent trip to Vietnam had me in heaven. Departure lounges and premium lounges at SGN and HAN have magnificent runway views, and there's few things prettier than watching 789s and A350s on domestic runs rocket off the runway

The eyeliner makes the window frames standard. By painting them all black, if a window is replaced it wont have to be painted to match the aircraft as they can come from the factory painted.

It could also serves the same purpose as athletes using eye-black to reduce glare.

Makes me jealous - wonder when we'll get a regular A350 service at LHR.

Be good if AY made their vists a regular thing.

Why don't we just do that with the whole plane, then all parts will always match.

I buy that argument when they used to paint in front of windshields black, but the outward facing frame would have a difficult time reflecting inward at the pilots. Matte paint would achieve the same goal anyway. This is just like the disagreement over polished metal between Airbus and AA in the 90's. It is just Airbus dictating terms on airlines that shouldn't be necessary.

I was passing through DOH on QR early last year and had the luck to see one of their brand new A350s parked right next to our 77W. As I got off the plane my eyes were fixated on this new bird. And yes, it is a beautiful sight. If it wasn't for my significant other, I would have stopped for a while and taken some pics. AV Geeks

Whoa, whoa, whoa... you can't just discount the 330 as nothing special. Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the 330 is more than just functional.

I'm still warming up the 350. It would be a great experience to see it in person, and take a flight, but the nose and tail still strike me a bit odd. I initially found the 380 repugnant, but now I find it graceful in its own way. I'm sure the 350 will do the same.

I couldn't agree more. However IMO to clarify its at its worst when viewing it from a ground profile. In the air with the gear retracted it looks okay.

I'm looking forward to seeing the A350-1000-especially on the ground. IMO the stretched versions of any a/c always bring out the aesthetics more. If the A350-1000 has taller main gear than the nose gear and a slight nose down angle (like the 787-900 and A340-600) then I think it will look amazing. If the nose height is same as main gear then I think its going to look even more awkward than its sister a/c the -900.

To be fair, I have not seen it overhead yet. Might change my opinion, but unless you live in a glidepath, most people don't see planes from that angle with much detail.

I really like the lines and proportions of the A333s but not the A332s so much.

I meant just the stock photos that are out there of it airborne (And or Youtube videos as well). Even on the Youtube vidoes when you watch one take off and then retract gear and climb out from a side or front view it looks okay.

Airbus produced a beauty when it made its very first aircraft! The nose section of the A300 >> 340 is the MOST beautiful thing ever made by Airbus, the A350's nose is beyond hideous in comparison.

I think the A350 looks okay except for the fugly nose, as for the eyeliner, I read on this forum that it's optional.

Seriously?

The A340-500 is one of the best looking commercial planes IMHO.

The A330 is pretty damn sexy too.

The A350 is quiet ugly IMHO - I don't like the nose, cockpit windows, wings and even the tail section.

I'll take an A340-500 any day!
