I would call the colour of the Volaris A320 engines "violet", not "pink"!

BA, IB and EI will have CFM and Vueling will take the P&W engines.

I think it's all to do with current engines in the fleet and commonality. Although not 100% sure the reason. Anyone else have the reason behind it?? It's almost 50-50 engine split on the order I believe with half the neo orders for Vueling.

LH Group has also both engine types on order. Currently they are getting PW birds and beinning from 2021 around it will be CFM. It has been said this is due to LH Technik and their engine capabilities/business. Could it be that this is the same reason for BA? I am not familiar with their MRO operations, so please correct me if I am wrong.

September has already seen an increase of P&W powered A320neo deliveries, and just like last year December will be ridiculously busy:

Pratt & Whitney remains on track to deliver 350-400 PW1000G geared turbofans (GTFs) in 2017, but it is working with Airbus to determine the mix of engines for new aircraft versus to grow a sizable spares pool supporting an entry-into-service reliability improvement program for A320neos.

"What we are working right now with Airbus is to see whether we want to…change the mix between engines that go towards new aircraft versus what goes into the lease pool this year to support the engines in the field better at this point in time," said Akhil Johri, CFO of Pratt parent United Technologies Corp. (UTC). "That's the only thing we are looking at. The number of total engines, 350 to 400--not a doubt at all at this point in time."

...

Pratt delivered 134 GTFs in the first half of 2017, including spares.

P&W opened another fan blade facility to support production ramp-up:

A key facility in Pratt & Whitney's campaign to get the production ramp-up for the geared turbofan engine family back on track "recently" opened in Lansing, Michigan, the manufacturer disclosed on 14 September.

In addition to opening the $97 million, 93,000ft2 fan blade production plant adjacent to P&W's AutoAir nacelle composite repair centre, the engine manufacturer also confirms it plans to open additional maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities to meet reduced commitments to deliver 350-400 geared turbofan engines this year and more than 700 next year.

I'm not so sure about that yet. Mostly cfm's coming down the line at the moment. I.e 1 in 10 is a Pratt frame.

EDIT: Now that I've read the link (should've done that first sorry), I think Pratt are clearly choosing to supply engines and spares to the already in service customer base, as described in the link above.

Either way, it's great to see them getting back on track.

That's because Airbus delivers A320neo aircraft from the storage pool first. The production line won't increase until all aircraft in storage are gone.

It's amusing that some of you here take everything P&W says as 100% truth. They are doing damage control. When the CFO says:

"What we are working right now with Airbus is to see whether we want to…change the mix between engines that go towards new aircraft versus what goes into the lease pool this year to support the engines in the field better at this point in time,"

It probably means they will now deliver more spare engines than first planned. At the beginning of the year, I believe they were targeting 13-15% of the 350-400 total to be spares. Now, the share is likely higher. 1st half engine deliveries don't directly translate to aircraft deliveries. But take a look at the number: 134 engines delivered in 1st half but less than 25 CSeries and A320neos with Pratt engines delivered in 1st half. If we exclude some engines to support flight tests and some for July deliveries, we could still have 60-70 of the engines were for spares. Currently, there are still double-digit number of PW powered A320neos on the ground. IndiGo's VT-ITV is supposedly installed with the improved engines, but it hasn't been in service for five days! Pratt has a long way to go.

We do not have to take everything for granted as we have actual data. September will end with three times more P&W deliveries than the months before, and more aircraft are being pulled from storage. That means more engines are being shipped to Airbus, just as the article describes. Where else would Airbus suddenly get these engines from?

It probably means they will now deliver more spare engines than first planned.

Nobody claimed the ratio would remain unchanged; the point being that the bulk of those 350-400 engines will be delivered in H2 2017. Even when the share of spare engines has changed than initially planned, we should still see an increase of engine deliveries to Airbus.

And we do notice an increase of P&W flight activities in TLS and XFW as more aircraft are being pulled from storage.

IndiGo's VT-ITV is supposedly installed with the improved engines

That would be astonishing as the first improved engine didn't arrive until late April / early May while VT-ITV was delivered in early April.

That is good news on the delivery. Honestly, Pratt's PW1100G issues had me wondering when they were going to figure it out instead of reacting to management.

I could wish so many weren't needed for the lease pool, but cest la vie. It is more important to keep delivered airframes flying than the total quantity.

I must say, I really like the look of the A321 with the new engine option. The new engines certainly make it look more proportional! However, it's the reverse for the A320neo where the engine looks a tad too big IMO. To each their own I guess.

Well-well-well, it becomes even more intriguing.

So, I would like to put it clearly.
1. MSN 6464 was supposed to be A319neo/PW flight test article
2. MSN 6620 was initially planned to be A319neo/CFM flight test article
3. MSN 6464 was converted to be an A319neo/CFM flight test article
4. MSN 6620 is now cancelled

That would be correct.

So, the A319neo/CFM will get its type certificate around mid-2018. And then maybe, just maybe. MSN 646 will be converted back to an A319neo/PW flight test article.

Earlier this year Airbus stated the P&W A319neo is due to follow after the CFM variant. That is all we know for the moment.

CFM certification may arrive earlier than mid-2018 BTW.

Questions:
1. When will the first A319neo/CFM enter into service after its certification?
2. When will the A319neo/PW be certified?

So, what's the plan?

This is even more interesting than I initially thought.

I have no proper answer on both questions.

My guess is something along the lines of XFW-YHZ-ONT-HNL.They could theoretically stop just about anywhere West of the Rockies before continuing on to HNL. XFW-REK-ANC-HNL would be about 1000 miles shorter though if they want to go that route.

Typical range is 3,700nm
According to Great Circle mapper ORD HNL is 3,688nm and XFW ORD is 3,699nm I thought a 2 hop trip could have been performed.
The plane will not have a big load.

Airasia has stated that it needed more aircraft this year than Airbus can allocate to them - I guess that this TSN delivery slot was available and that Airasia was OK with being allocated this aircraft.

Airasia has also agreed to take some A320CEOs as there are slots available on that line.

No mention anywhere of the engine having "failed". It only mentions an engine "problem". At this point we don"t know what the problem was, or even whether the engine was shut down prior to landing. Hardly an engine failure for now!

I thought Tianjin was only going to be used for frames being delivered to China? Or is this for an AirAsia China?

If I remember correctly I think AirAsia previously has taken at least one CEO from Tianjin

Regarding further production increase, Airbus studies higher output in TSN:

http://aviationweek.com/commercial-avia ... ty-further

TIANJIN, China - Airbus is considering moving A330neo and A350 cabin completion work to its Chinese production facility here and is also studying increased output from the site’s A320 final assembly line. Fabrice Bregier, Airbus Commercial Aircraft president, pointed out at the opening of the A330 completion center that the facility is able to move to or add the A330neo and the A350 work. “That is in the plan,” he said.

Speaking about Tianjin, increases activities can be observed at Tianjin Airlines A320neo aircraft:

MSN 7495 GS #2 test flight last week in XFW after months of silence (first flight was performed in early 2017).

In addition, another ex-QR (MSN 6946) was ferried CHR-TLS two days ago after paint.

See https://www.flightradar24.com/AIB05BZ/ef109b8

IndiGo has 4 ex-QR A320neo lined-up for delivery:

> MSN 6946, ex-QR, refurbished & repainted: flight testing
> MSN 7083, ex-QR, refurbished & repainted: flight testing
> MSN 7192, ex-QR, to be refurbished & repainted

As no further QR aircraft were built, this basically marks the end for the QR A320neo saga.
