According to all things 787, line #16 for Ethiopian which is painted and ready to go is not going to be delivered until late July. Anyone know why?

LN 16 is not yet painted and is still undergoing the final rework. After rollout all Terrible Teens spent 1 to 1 1/2 months on the flightline in preparation for the first flight. After that it will take one more month for painting it. But I'm with you that the delivery dates for the other teens seem a bit strange, because the two other Teens for Ethiopian that are still undergoing rework are scheduled for delivery in March and May.

Delivery schedule was made just simply before these frames entered re-work. Change of re-work order changed order of frame to delivery, so LN16 will be probably delivered in March.
She is nearly ready for 1st flight, already underwent initial fueling and APU start tests.

Ethiopian's upcoming summer schedule sees the need for additional aircraft delivery for it to be able to pull it off (and this does not include the B763 it is actively removing.) Some of the schedules even call for two more A350s to be delivered before then.

It's been clear for a while that All Things' teen delivery schedule is out of date. LN 16 rolled out first, LN 19 (if that is the Tanzania frame, which I expect) seems to be scheduled for delivery earlier than is reflected on his schedule. But he can't do anything about the out-of-date info if no one on the inside gives him any updates.

LN 16 has not been painted. Delivery is also determined by the customer. It seems that Ethiopian is not ready to take it until sometime next year.

Does anyone know why there is some red and blue paint on the tail? As far as I know this frame never wore the colours of LAN, the original customer, but has been all white since rollout. Or is this just some tape?

Those are parts (access panels) from other teens that were reused for this one. The red and green at the forward end of the tail is from one of the birds (17 or 19) painted for RAM. The blue at the very lower edge is from one of the many birds painted for ANA.

The new CHS paint hangar is ready:

The giant paint hangar Boeing opened along International Drive on Thursday completes the company's plan to build a "freezer-to-flight" campus for its local 787 production line.

From raw materials that are frozen until needed for fuselage construction to the time a customer flies one of the wide-bodies home, the entire nose-to-tail assembly process will now take place at the North Charleston facility.

No longer will Boeing South Carolina have to send its Dreamliners to other sites around the country for their paint jobs.

Any announcements when the RR Trent 1000 TEN will start being installed on the 788/789. I know the 787-10 is getting it so availability must be fairly soon.

Ahh, thanks, that makes sense.

Other question: Can the new painting facility in Charleston fit two 787's at the same time? Must be, because otherwise they would have to send some of them to Victorville & Co. for painting?

As per the article, yes, it has two bays!

Congrats to Boeing and Charleston. I think it is exciting to see Boeing expand and diversify their manufacturing facilities.

According to Allthings787, it will be LN517 for American Airlines early next year. That means that only two more, LN512 & LN514, will be painted outside Charleston with one, LN510, currently being painted in Acadiana.

Will it just be a red plane, or will they add a special livery in china, similar to what Qantas did with the delivery of "Red" VH-OEJ?

According to All Things 787 it is in position 4 on the line and due to roll out on 2/23/17. It takes extra time to assemble a new model because there are some differences and also because of the special test wiring and equipment that has to be installed.

No, this is #2 of 6 Kung Fu Panda liveries. Theyre adding the characters and details as stickers really soon, I think before this enters service. HU held a contest and a lady from the US won, her design is going to be featured. Anyone with facebook, go on Hainan's facebook page and you'll see the winning design there. Lady designed it with wings painted too but that won't happen.

Used to work in production myself, so I know about the test equipment installations. I just thought they'd keep the FAL running at the usual pace and do the flight test installations on the ramp or in a stand alone bay. I'm sure the time savings have already been factored in anyway.

CHS is poorly set up for photographs for a variety of reasons (a lot of obstructions, no good overview of Boeing's ramp from anywhere, etc), so you don't see many pics from there unless they come directly from Boeing.
