I find it somewhat interesting that the 787-10 retains the double-bogey main landing-gear, while the A350-10 has a triple-bogey main landing-gear. I wonder how much more each version of the-10s weigh compared with the -9s. Of course Boeing has the 788 also which is lighter still!

787-10 and 787-9 have identical maximum weights. The 787-10 is truly a straight stretch of the 787-9, trading higher capacity for lower range. Both planes have lighter maximum weights than the A350-900, let alone the -1000.

A350-1000 is a significantly heavier plane than A350-900, with larger wings, more powerful engines, and much higher weights. It's intended to have similar range to the A350-900 despite the extra capacity.

Is there a standard built-in fuel dumping system (fuel jettison system) in the 788, 789 or 781? Or, is it optional? Or is it non-existent as it Airbus 333s?

AC released their Q3'17 results and I was hoping to hear something about what would come of their 787 options and purchase rights, but still nothing!

6.5. Capital expenditures and related financing arrangements Boeing 787 aircraft

Air Canada has outstanding purchase commitments with The Boeing Company (“Boeing”) for eight Boeing 787 aircraft (one of which remains to be delivered in 2017, five in 2018 and two in 2019). Air Canada also has purchase options for 13 Boeing 787 aircraft (entitling Air Canada to purchase aircraft based on previously determined pricing and delivery positions), and purchase rights for 10 Boeing 787 aircraft (entitling Air Canada to purchase aircraft based on Boeing’s then current pricing).

*Link to Q3'17 MD&A

Does anyone know when the expiration dates are on these? Surely they have a deadline of some sort. I would imagine Boeing would be keen to have these expire since it is said that the agreed to pricing is very very competitive given the delay experienced with the EIS.

I remember reading/hearing anecdotally that the 10-year agreement with the pilots had a clause stating that there would be 100x widebody aircraft in the fleet by 2020. According to present fleet plans that are publicly available, these would come up short if the already long-in-the-tooth mainline 767s were to be retired. Personally, I do think they will be put out to pasture soon since they are not getting upgrades of any kind (WiFi, Seats, Interiors, etc..).

So...

25x 777s
37x 787s
8x a330s
25x 767s Rouge
---
95 + [5x 767s Mainline (???)]

= 5 short

Do they take the options, but not the rights? Some but not all?
787-9s only, or do they add the 787-10s?

They still have time, from what I have been told by people at AC, they don’t start expiring for a while, almost 2 years from now (I don’t have a specific date sorry). They have 8 A333’s and 5 767’s whose replacements are unaccounted for at this time, corresponding exactly to the number of options (coincidence maybe ;) I’ll let you be the judge of that). The intention is to hold onto these airplanes as long as they can, as they are still making money, and most importantly, are payed off. Their problem as of late has come with the rapid expansion, their margins are down because of the capital expenditures to acquire these new 787’s. Their goal is to increase yields and load factors using equipment they have at this point in order to bring up EBDITAR and increase operating profits. Give it a couple of years, and the options likely will come. Ben Smith said there is no plans to retire beyond what has been announced, and that they are keeping the aircraft they have into the 202’s (767’s and A330’s) There is also talk of acquiring 5 additional A333’s for interim lift if need be, it has been mentioned on this site, and I’ve heard it rumbling around elsewhere.

Going foreward, I think it is highly likely that they are going to exercise the options for 787-10’s, especially for use from YYZ where frequency isn’t an option during large parts of the day due to congestion. They will also likely be looking into a new wide body for Rouge, and a new MoM aircraft to replace the 767/A321 combo that flies extensively on key Transcons. They have a need for probably an additional 40-50 widebodies orders not including eventual 777 replacements. That gives them leverage to find a product that works best, who knows, could even be an Airbus.

Sorry to distract from the thread topic!

What is a 1000-TEN? This bird is a 789, not a 787-10, and AFAIK, there is nothing different/special about its RR Trent 1000 engines. So what am I missing here? And thank you for correcting the reg!

All you want to know is in:

T-1000 TEN is not specific to 787-10.

Little 787-10 update here

The 1st 787-10 (RR powered), N528ZC returned to BFI after doing some flight testing in VCV for a few days.
https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/n528zc

The 2nd 787-10, N548ZC which is also the GE testbed has not flown since September 8th, really scratching my head as to what the hold up is with this aircraft and how far behind the GE engine will be when it comes to certification.

The third 787-10. N565ZC (2nd RR testbed), spent a week on the ground in VCV and flew back to CHS yesterday

Funny, that even their tweaked livery will still show that they've been part of TUI Group some time ago. I thought they might change it all over or simply alter their colors a bit.
