i presume UAL intends on converting some 787-10s to 787-9s as you have LN 443 and LN 445 going to them despite UAL having no more 789s on order?!?

Well, it actually happened... they converted two -10s to -9s in the latest update.

I count 10x 787-8 and 12x 787-9 in that list. Are we rapidly approaching the point that the -9 will overtake the -8 in terms of deliveries - and never look back again

Indeed! If I am not mistaken June will be the first month where more 789s will be delivered than 788s but this is partially due to three of EY's 789s being delayed for seats which NYC777 thinks will deliver this month.

I believe July and August will be roughly 50/50 and by September there will be no looking back as 789s will take the delivery lead for years to come.

There is a period in December where out of 17 straight 787s that enter final assembly 16 of them will be 789s. I suspect 2016 will be something like 80/20 in favor of 789s in terms of deliveries.

In May alone we had the following 789 conversions:

- Air Canada converted seven 788 to 789
- LAN converted eight 788 to 789
- TUI converted two 788 to 789, +1 new order 789

plus the two from UA going from 781s to 789s - that's a first (but certainly appears to be a result of the 77W conversion and the need for early 789 deliveries.

The writing is on the wall.

I find it particularly interesting that in about three and a half years, the more 787s have been delivered than L1011s (about 244), MD11s (200) and A310s (255) and will overtake the A340 (377) and DC10 (386) within the year.

speaking of the 789 conversions, LOT's last two on order will be 789s not 788s I heard for 2017-2018~. Please tell me I'm not the only one that's heard this.
I guess we can call this a rumor?

The firing order is updated. First 787-10 will be Trent-1000 powered, the second is GE.

Thanks for the work you've done. Without your spreadsheets, a lot of us here would be pretty clueless.

Kinda curious about the ones listed to go to a customer with the code '732' though.

Same here.

At the rate of one a month.
L/N 446, ZB782, c/n 62712, GE, Charleston (delivery Jun / Jul 2016)
L/N 453, ZB783, c/n 62713, GE, Charleston (delivery Jul 2016)
L/N 465, ZB784, c/n 62714, GE?, Everett (delivery Aug / Sep 2016)

And these could be from the same order.
L/N 477, ZB?, c/n?, GE?, Everett
L/N 487, ZB?, c/n?, GE?, Charleston
L/N 501, ZB?, c/n?, GE?, Charleston

Would fit with QF getting some GE 789's in FY 2017 (01 Jul 2016 to 30 Jun 2017)

It's really hard to tell. I wouldn't try to ascribe a pattern to the firing order especially for production that is a couple years out. As far as QF, there was report that if they exercise the purchase rights it might lower their credit rating to below junk status so we have to see.

I don't know, they have already had Hainan planes before. I think it will be somebody else still.

For instance they have a plane for His Majesty The Sultan's Flight but the customer number I believe is 619

If it's a ZB1**-ZB2**, it's a domestic - 395 seats
If it's a ZB4**, it's a long haul - 215 seats
If it's a ZB6**-ZB7**, it's a mid range - 246 seats

No those slots are allocated to UA after the 787/777-300ER swap. Those production slots are all set.

RE: 787 Production/Delivery Thread - Part 43

Mon Jun 08, 2015 4:07 pm

A post by Woodys Aeroimages on another site is reporting movement at the EMC. ZB001 (ANZ 787-9, LN 126, first test 787-9) has been moved outside the EMC, with engines and substantially complete. ZD004 (LN 12) then moved inside the EMC. I find the latter surprising as the clock is rapidly ticking on LN 15's (ZD001) expected delivery date at the end of 2015, and I thought they would make LN 15 first priority.

The theme for this morning at PAE is "787-9 Test Frames." ZB021 (JAL 787-9, LN 139) is flying a C-2 flight. ZB002 (ANZ 787-9, LN 133) is flying its first flight post-change incorporation. As noted above ZB001 emerged from the EMC.

Tim Clark on the 787-10:

“If anything, the 10 is not coming up with the thrust requirements that we need. We’re working with Boeing on that, whereas the A350-900 has got bags of thrust.

Just noticed this:

787-10 right now short on thrust Emirates Airline COO Tim Clark says. A350-900 has "bags of thrust."

I'm sure RR can create a high thrust option just for them...

Really? I'm surprised! I thought their intended use of the 10 was well below the limit of its weight and endurance. I'll speculate that it's to do with hot and high performance, where the A350 excels, but it seems that the order is really tight.

I'm sure they would, but then there isn't that much motivation for RR to do it in the sense that they know they have the order in the bag. I'm sure they can budge for such a valuable customer though. I wonder how much thrust they want?

Seriously how much thrust do they need? GE has is coming up with 80k and I think RR is at 78k.

The 787-10 should be no slouch in hot/high performance either. Honestly, Tim's comments strike me more as an attempt to keep Boeing honest on pricing than anything else. Based on the numbers, the 787-10 seems clearly like a better fit for these missions, provided reasonable pricing by both OEMs.

I wonder if RR can do with the Trent 1000-TEN what GE did with the GE90-115b and offer a "thrust bump" option that allows a higher TOGA thrust rating for high-temperature departures.

Maybe TC wants an afterburner option

I agree with you 100% on this.

I'm gonna go a different track and say: SV via the Ministry of Finance. . .

They already have 4 in the firing order. Why the secrecy on others?

There are two separate orders. The one publically announced that comes directly from SV for x8 -9's. The other was ordered well before that, and has been 'UFO' since it was signed. The actual purchaser is the Saudi Ministry of Finance, with the intent to lease them to SV.

How many did the Ministry of Finance sign for? I bet it's 13. That order was signed quite some time ago.

Does anyone have any information on VT-AND and why she's been grounded since 2nd January 2015? Awfully long time for maintenance, are AI having issues we are unaware off or are they just very poor at timely turn around (aka VT-ANI)
