What is the flight test process for the 787-10? How many test planes, what will they be testing for and how long is it expected to take. I assume many of the 788 and 789 tests will not need to be redone

According to this site, the production list shows three Boeing 787-10 for the test program, LN528 (1st) LN548 (2nd) LN565 (3rd), with the fourth 787-10 to be the first of Singapore Airlines planes. LN528 and LN565 will later become the 5th and 4th 787-10 for SIA.

Thanks for sharing this - I hadn't realised that the stretch behind the wing was achieved by stretching the tail barrel section.

I completely missed the 787-10 rollout :( This news warranted it's own thread!

Congrats to Boeing, looks great. Although I prefer the look of the A350 when on the ground. Since the 787 sits lower to the ground, it looks more like a 737 to me. I think that is part of the beauty of the 757, it sits up so high.

I think anyone can start a new thread but several people have commented about there not being one. Has someone started one and it was deleted or is it just that no one wants to start one? I agree that you'd think there'd be something to draw attention to with such a rollout. :-)

Pretty much old news. Just a confirmation that they converted the 4 787-9s to -8s that was previously reported. The order switch was already done since last year

Sorry if I'm jumping the gun but shouldn't the -10 be making its first flight soon?

Shouldn't the GE testbed be rolling out sometime soon too?

LOL! After looking at the 787-10, the -9 looks short and the -8 looks positively stumpy! :-)

There are 2 aircraft being painted in Charleston that have been in the paint hangers for quite some time. Does anyone know why these 2 are taking so long? 2 later production frames have been sent to Acadiana to be painted and I was under the impression that was no longer going to be done.

Probably training, can't just build a paint hanger and expect to be spitting planes out left and right.

Add to this equipment shake down. There are a lot of robotics involved which probably take time to settle down.

BA probably have found they need something closer to the 767. The 788 would be a better fit.

UA have commented that the best size aeroplane to replace the 767 is a plane the same size as the 767. I suspect the 787-8 is probably the closest in size to the 767.

Now that the 787 has been in service for quite a few years, the A330NEO is being offered in the market place, we will probably start seeing a natural order in aircraft orders.

Maybe Boeing should re-look at the 787-3? It could be a small cost variant with a relatively large market (300 aircraft).

Yes, I wonder if these three new 788s will be delivered in a two class short haul layout, to replace the 763s (all of which are now in a short haul configuration)?

They'd probably need more than three, though, so it'll be interesting to see if some (if not all, in time) of the existing 788 fleet is converted for short to medium haul usage.

With all the drama surrounding MoMs and A380s, I'd almost forgotten about the -10. Good news to hear it's coming up. I'm just thankful that it's in CHS so that it might be clear weather for the flight. At this point, here in Seattle, if it's just a bright overcast we call it a sunny day.

Two things:

1) Boeing confirmed my earlier report of MArch 31st for firswt flight of ZC001 the first 787-10: http://nyc787.blogspot.com/2017/03/b...e-for-787.html

2) I've updated the production tables to reflect the firing order up to LN 700 but I did not have any information on LN 686 and LN 697 which are 787-10. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

Unless it is operating in North Carolina, in which case it is determined by the airworthiness certificate.

Can an uncertified plane be ready to make such a decision. Surely there is an age of consent.

Are you implying that a 787-9 can decide for itself but a 787-10 can't, you sir are a bigot and the ACLU will see you in court.
