Any idea why there's a stopover in Dubai? Especially on a delivery flight it should make TLS-MNL nonstop easy?

Edit: Just a wild guess but maybe it's a leased aircraft and the leasing company is based in UAE and requires it to be flown there first?

This aircraft isn't leased.

Might 5J have arranged a sale and leaseback deal in Dubai?

Or...is it at all possible that 5J made the DWC-MNL leg a revenue flight given that they still had a station there?

If it isn't leased that will be a first for Cebu, so we can assume it is leased or in process, but that's not necessarily the reason for the stop.

Actually the rate increase was based on the current backlog. Due to the A330neo delay, Airbus needs to stretch A330ceo production further than initially planned. Sticking at the current rate will keep the A330ceo in production for couple more years.

Unless they can pick up some more frames that were built for other airlines they won't be getting any A330s until the second half of 2018. They don't have any frames in the production list with MSNs assigned.

There are quite a few A330 on order taking all versions of the A330 and orders coming in. At this build rate, 6 frames a month, there are few short term available slots. Airbus can of course increase the build rate if they want to increase available slots, but that could also disturb the ramp up of the A350.

The current backlog, about 360 frames, is still a five years production run at 6 a month or 72 a year.

I appreciate this is a Production Thread for the A330 siblings.

Some thought that there would be a clean cut between the A320 and the A320neo production, to end up over time with 100% neo. I suggest this will not be the case for commercial reasons including low oil. Because of the now proven ability to play popular tunes with the production system more easily than was thought possible.

For the A330, it seems that for shortish routes, the old engine option may have the best economics, and is certainly a lower cost option than the neo. So if low oil continues, it seems likely that for commercial reasons the old and new will both continue to be built into the foreseeable future. Thus benefiting the reach of the A330 in the market place, including the over hyped MoM mirage of a market place.

There is no reason to ceasing making aeroplanes which customers wish to purchase at acceptable pricing, whether A320 siblings or A330 ditto, if the production systems permit. The greater utility of the various options with be a win for customers, engine producers and for Airbus. For RR in particular it will extend the life of the Trent 700 and keep the Trent 7000 powered neo relevant by keeping the production line of A330s at a economic rate for longer.

I always think why IR doesn't take up N508AV which has been in storage in US desert for some time. It was built for AV and it was flown for three months at most with them before AV got rid of her. Since then, she has been burning at desert close to two years if I'm not wrong.

In addition, AV offloads more A332 given that they have large amount of B787 delivered? It doesn't make sense to have both aircraft of same (almost) capacity in operation. Could someone shed some light why AV does so? I am sorry if I derailed the thread.

Maybe und wouldn't be the first time.

But:
In the financial statement of 2016 (published in may 2017) Air Berlin is talking about a new fleet-size of 17 A332's (14 in 2016). The three "new" are Ex-Evelop (1) and Ex-TAM (2). The last entered service end of may. The german magazine airliners.de wrote these days, they have inside information, that the number will grow to 22 (till 2019). Therefore I thought, this frame maybe the first for this batch (on the other hand, all AB-332s are PW-powered, MSN 1508 is RR-powered).

As KarelXWB mentioned in another thread, Air Berlin has ordered 339 neos. As far as I know two via Air Leas Corp. They seem to be for fleet renewal (the oldest two AB 332s are from 1999 and 2000) and not fleet-upsizing.

We will see.

Great information you got there. I am surprised airBerlin is taking more wide body when organisational wide restructuring is currently on-going. Expansion should be last thing in mind for an ailing airline. Perhaps someone has more information. Regarding airBerlin A330-223, they may be getting more ex-TAM PW birds as Turkish Airlines is returning a few this year and there are some currently in storage. Also available are ex-Royal Jordanian and Arik Air birds. Unlike Brussels Airlines which operates all three engine types, it will be quite interesting to see airBerlin to take up A330-243. Let's see how it pans out.
