F9 To Quit PHF Effective January

Tue Nov 25, 2014 9:25 pm

http://www.dailypress.com/news/dp-nws-frontier-20141124-story.html

Today's newspaper says that Frontier will drop PHF in January despite loads in excess of 90%. Their spokesman says it takes an airplane for 8 hours--guess they think they can make better use of it elsewhere.

Really is a shame--people around here really liked them.

Same thing is happening with MDT. DEN service ends in January and MCO ends in April. They claim they can make more money elsewhere.

F9 is cutting the following cities from DEN, all between now and Jan 6, 2015

BFL, BMI, EUG, FAT, FLL, GEG, IDA, LGA, MDT, MDW, MOT, PHF, PSP and SBA

MDW, FLL are replaced by service to ORD and MIA respectively.

FAR and PBI are cut from DEN in Apr 2015.

Several frequency cuts are being made in DEN as well. F9 is formatting their flight schedule to their new ULCC business model. You will continue to see markets cut as the hub and spoke system disappears from DEN

LGA-DEN is going seasonal opposite Miami.

Well that is disappointing to hear   Especially since F9 seemed so excited to come back. Is this part of their new strategy of being a ULCC? Exiting the smaller markets to focus on the big cities?
Seems like its heading that direction.

Short answer: Yes

ULCCs tend to focus strictly on P2P passengers rather than connecting passengers. The hub and spoke system (F9 at DEN) doesn't work with well with the ULCC business model. So, you will continue to see cuts in DEN to destinations where there isn't enough demand, which are typically smaller markets.
