Air Wisconsin Gets New Contract

Thu Nov 20, 2014 6:40 pm

Air Wisconsin reached a principle agreement with Delta to fly 26 CRJ 200's for a term of six years. This was in an email sent to all employees.

So where will these be operating from, one single base?

PHL, CVG, RDU, JFK, DTW, and the DC network starts January 5, 2015 and the last aircraft will go into operation on October 1, 2015

Are these 26 Air Whisky aircraft coming from the US operation or are they ex-9E birds as was rumored? From the news of the main bases being DTW, CVG, and JFK, it sounds like the latter.

They are coming from 9E, 9E will become a 2-class -900 operation.

Happy to see it! Started in this industry with Air Whiskey, and now work for DL!

A real question then is which of the seven 9E MX bases will stay. I assume that 9E will keep the DSM, TYS, IND, DTW, and CVG MX bases as those airports see CR9s. OTOH, CWA and FWA only see the CR2, though the latter sees 1 EV CR9 a day.

I could see Air Whisky also taking the FWA MX base in addition to the 26 CR2s, as ZW flies to PHL and CLT from FWA using CR2s and the 9E hangar (ironically, built for Air Whisky in the 1980s) can handle more than what 9E sends in there now. CWA is probably toast regardless of what happens because it's so close to the existing ZW MKE MX base.

Now DL can suffer like US/AA has with this company. This had been rumored for a while and I am surprised that DL actually went this route with their planned reduction of 200 flying. Hope it works out for DL the way they want it to.

Suffer??? ZW has one of the best operational performances of any US/AA regional flying. And that says a lot with hubs in PHL and DCA!! I would like to see the ..LR operate 100+ departures a day out of PHL! Great news for the folks at ZW.

If you don't deal with them on a daily basis you don't get the full picture. Maybe you do work with them at an outstation or smaller airport where they are better as I have seen but in the major airports where I work with them they are just a difficult company to work with. Not saying they are bad they are just difficult unlike the others.

Are you able to give specific examples? In what capacity do you interact with ZW?

I have read your posts over time and for years you have taken shot after shot at ZW, as if there is some personal issue involved. Unless you personally work for ZW you probably don't know much about how it works as an independent, and not wholly owned, company.

Just saying someone is difficult to work with doesn't make it so. Let's hear specific examples, including details of actual situations.

Congrats to ZW. It looked like they were going to become a groundhandler only operator. Now if they can get some E75s.

Didn't they just pull out of ground ops entirely?

Initially yes they were however it was announced Tuesday that UA signed ZW to new 3yr ground handling contracts in GRB, MKE, CWA, BHM, ERI, MAF, LNK, and SBN. They are also in talks with HP to retain their 3 ground handling cities they have with then in HHH, IPT, and HTS and continue with OO handling in MBS and SPI.

Yeah, multiple sources reporting such...

Crazy in the sense that there are Delta flights for sale, saying Operated by Air Wisconsin.

There was some funny business that showed up in the OAG thread this week that seemed like it was ZW flights not being shown, but maybe now they pulled them at the last minute before getting them reassigned.

Wow. If that's true, they must've hit some huge snag if they were already signed into a contract and selling the flights as ZW/DL.

Does anyone have more information??
