Royal Jordanian Takes Delivery Of First B787

Thu Aug 28, 2014 8:38 pm

Royal Jordanian has taken delivery of it's first 787!

Registration: JY-BAA

The first of three 787s on lease from Dutch lessor, AerCap. The next 2 will be delivered later this year.

I like it. Looks nice. What do you think?

RJ plans to send the 787 to North America as well as to Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Planned 787 routes for RJ can be seen here:
http://airlineroute.net/2014/07/23/rj-787update3/

Also, Royal Jordanian has plans to launch LAX and MIA via VIE. Which has been already approved by Austrian authorities.

Wish RJ the best of luck!

Strangely I've never liked UA's battleship livery while I've always liked RJ's. That 787 looks gorgeous, even if I probably would have preferred to see the old red tail's tip.

The 2nd and 3rd RJ 787's have colored nacelles,

I can only assume RJ will repaint the nacelles

before starting service ?

Just one man's opinion, but I believe they have one of the nicest looking liveries. It's classy. That's also a great plane for it to appear upon.

Commercial service for JY-BAA begins on Sep 1, 2014 with daily AMM-LHR flight, except for a few off days where it will be used on regional routes (e.g. Sep 4th sees it doing AMM-RUH-AMM-DXB-AMM instead of AMM-LHR).

JY-BAB (Aercap) and JY-BAC (CIT Leasing) are due to be delivered before Oct 1, 2014, at which points routes to Asia will be added. AMM-BKK-KUL (3x weekly) and AMM-BKK-HKG (4x weekly).

I stand corrected. RJ didn't waste anytime. JY-BAA is currently flying RJ 742/743 AMM-DMM-AMM within 24 hours of delivery!

What a great livery on this B787, at the moment the best one in my opinion!

Beautiful livery. I'd love to see that rendered on the -9, and even the 380. I think wavy cheatlines would enhance this design even further.

I think any aircraft would look stunning wearing the Royal Jordanian livery!

From what I can see, this bird will be flying between Amman and Bangkok (plus KUL and HKG)? Will it be replacing an A340 or an A330?

That's good to hear - The photos here look absolutely amazing, but I can imagine it to only be better still with the "proper" RJ engines.

Great looking plane! Out of the few women in the photo only one made it to the front row!

Is it just me, or in the very first photo up top does it look like a giant carboard cutout of a plane. The angle gives it a 2d look

Anyway good for RJ, they need these to replace those aging A340s

The aspect ratio is a bit squashed. You can see that the nacelles in photos 1 and 2 are a bit oval. That makes the whole thing look a bit odd.

Nonetheless, I do love RJ's livery and it looks fantastic on the 787!

Great to see RJ's 787s finally in service. Wonder what they'll do with the 340s now.

RJ needs this fresh hope with the 787 as they are hurting... especially from the big ME carriers as well as Turkish airlines.

I would imagine that they will leave service as soon as the 787 operation is up and running and they have gained some familiarity and experience with the 787. The A340s are twenty years old now and maintenance costs are probably very high. Presumably they will be "parked" at AMM rather than being flown to VCV or LDE?

Incidentally, in an earlier draft of the 787 operational plans, YUL/DTW was mentioned, but this now seems to have disappeared. Is that an ETOPS related issue? Will they only begin t/a operations once the second aircraft has arrived?

Although the 787 will give RJ a shiny new look, I think RJ would be better off to sub-lease the 787s (if the lessors accept) and buy or lease 330s from the market. Again, RJ is hurting and the timing of these aircraft does not bode well with the current reality.

Congrats to RJ and one of the most stunning liveries on a 787 so far!

I just always felt the crown on the tail could be a tiny bit bigger. But it still fabulous.

North American ops begin late November. Its only normal that they initially use the aircraft on shorter hops, this way the plane does several rotations in a day, which is good for crew training and familiarization.

It has nothing to do with ETOPS.

I wish they would remove the web address.
Otherwise, she's a beautiful airplane! I look forward to seeing her this winter in Detroit.

Has anyone seen the images of the interior of the 787? Looks great! Love the red chairs. Makes United's 787 cabin look v. boring in comparison.
