747 Upper Deck

Sat Oct 30, 1999 11:28 am

i was wondering, In the 747 upper deck, is it as wide as a 737? could there be 3x3 and the seats be the SAME as in a 737 or 757? If not, how wide is it?

My dad has beenon a 747-100 (BOAC) and from the picture, there is not a lot of room (in the 100 series anyway) Standing height in the middle and it quickly angles down.

I have been upstairs on a 747-200 and 400. The 400 and 200 are like a 737 and the I used to lie down on the storage holders by the window and go to sleep!

Qantas' B-747-200 upper deck has about 10 rows of 3+3 seating. It was very cramped. Business class was down below in the nose.

Best Regards,

I have flown on one of Air Canada's B747-400's and it had 3x3 seating up top. That was when it was economy class, now the upper deck on AC's 744's are executive class (2x2). Phil

The economy class config is very cramped...First of all the seats do not butt up to the wall as they do downstairs, there is a ledge next to the window seat. THis is because how the walls angle up so the seats aren't flush to the wall. It's fine if it's business class but i wouldn't want to sit in economy upstairs!

I flew on a BA 744 up top in business class. There was plenty of room for the 2x2 seating, but it seemed as if 3x3 would be very tight.

I know of one carrier that had Y seating on the upper deck ina 3x3 layout, but they also provided 37" leg room so it wasnt all that bad. They have now reverted to the standard (for them) 34" pitch that the main deck of Y has. Haven't tried it out yet, but given that I wasn't all that happy up there with the old config even, I doubt I'd enjoy it now. Even with J seating upstairs, I find it to be a "cramped" atmosphere.
Cheers.
