Boeing Studied C-17 Super Jumbo.

Wed Sep 08, 1999 6:21 am

It was revealed in a leading Aviation magazine that Boeing once studied a super jumbo with a high wing rather than low wing which was a C-17 type looking aircraft. It seems to me that one day Boeing is going to say to the world. Oh, by the way our Super Jumbo will be ready in a month.

I do not think it would have been a good platform to start off with. Airlines are concerned about lower operating costs, and fuel efficiency. And while the AF is concerned about these matters too,its not the driving point behind their designs. So the Boeing would have to do alot of engineering work to make sure the costs of operating would be low. C-17 is still an impressive aircraft. I do not know why Boeing has not done a better job trying to market it to the cargo companies. Instead of putting cargo in containers, just back up the trailer onto the aircraft, secure it,and unload the trailer at the opposite airport. Just drive, straight to the customer even, the ultimate in efficiency of time and labor.
But I guess that makes too much sense.
