So, I'm flying next month to Bergen in Norway, a rout I've flown probably 20 times. This time around I'm flying with Norwegian and just for fun I looked at recent flights on FR24 and noticed that the path they seem to be taking in most cases since flights resumed in April are a bit peculiar. It's like they are flying towards Trondheim for most of the way before taking a sharp turn down the coast and into Bergen.
Few flights in April had the more normal route, the same route flown all year last year, which goes over the Faroes in a pretty straight line to Bergen from KEF. But most are taking this weirder route it seems.
Any ideas as to why?

But then on the BGO - KEF route it's the "normal" routing.

What do you think? What could possibly make flights following a pretty straight forward path from A to B or instead follow a much less straight forward routing?
Anything?
Something that can have a strong impact on performances...
Something not very visible but still very much present....

I'm guessing you're talking about weather?
But we are talking about 7 flights in a row over the course of 3 weeks or so taking this very same route but the reverse flight is just a straight path between the two cities.

Yes...except going back a whole year I don't see any other flights doing this until last month. Also, in my experience flying back home to Iceland from Europe is when I usually encounter strong headwinds.

On those particular days there might have been a SIGMET for severe turbulence in that area, or might have been a NOTAM for airspace closure due a military exercise!
Airlines don't normally flight plan their planes extra track miles just for the heck of it. Too costly fuel-wise and time-wise.

Perhaps. But for such a long time and only on the KEF - BGO route, not on the reverse?

Looked at the Icelandair flight to BGO too and that is a straight line direct to Bergen.
