I hope this is a sarcastic remark...
You seriously think Jetlines has the money to buy the entire Group Transat? If they did they would be flying already don't you think? They are looking for 100% sale of the entire group which is currently valued around 2 billion.

As I had already mentioned:

Peladeau, the controlling shareholder of Quebecor and son of its deceased founder, said he personally ordered the analysis -- not his company -- but "it's premature to close any sorts of doors."

Peladeau is not the only interested party. Montreal developer Vincent Chiara, who owns Groupe Mach, which bought the former CBC tower in Montreal in 2017, told The Canadian Press he has already submitted an offer following several months of talks.

And...

"The list of Quebec players interested in acquiring Transat AT is getting longer with the addition of a group led by the head of financial services company FNC Capital, The Canadian Press has learned.

Dominik Pigeon, whose firm specializes in management buyouts, has confirmed his group’s interest in the tour operator."

Monsieur "drama queen". I don't see where the capital needed to purchase would come from unless he hoodwinked the Quebec government like he did with the Videotron arena in YQB.

If we're taking long shots why not suggest Porter could be interested. They could fly those 321's out of YTZ. Now for lengthening that runway...

In view of recent PRIVATE EQUITY involvements with WestJet... I think one has to keep watch if this was a first strike in preparation for other dominoes.
Aesthetically the A 340 got it right!

Indeed. Onex has enough capital to also buy Transat AT.

Despite flying different equipment (and having totally different culture...) we can see the complementary reach of each airline: WestJet being strong in the west, average in TO and extremely poor in French speaking markets (Transat being the other way around).

In such a scenario (and if they can somehow keep both airlines/pilot groups separated), I can see Transat's A321LRs usefulness for some WestJet's longer thin routes. And WestJet (+Encore) could efficiently feed some Transat's transatlantic routes.

The older crowd will remember when Onex (then financed by AA?) made an hostile Canadian & Air Canada take over bid in 1999. Their plan was then to move AC from Star Alliance to One World...

Above scenario is obviously highly hypothetical. It could also be that Onex has no interests in buying AT whatsoever.

From a corporate culture perspective, Transat and WS are about as far apart on the scale as one can imagine. Add the language factor and, at least from WS’s perspective, TS would be about as desirable as a bad dose of the clap.

In the short term, very short term, WS could use some Transat lift to mitigate the Max issue, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s a blip on the timeline and not worth blowing your brains out with a silly acquisition.

The Bureau’s market dominance test on the U.K. and France, let alone other markets, virtually precludes AC as being a serious buyer. AC would be forced to shed LHR slots to WS. Not going to happen. No way, no how.

AC are probably interested in having a good peak under the hood though. Why not? WS will, probably do the same.

WS figured out YUL-FLL long ago. If others want to blow their brains out on one of the lowest yielding markets in the network, full of Aeroplan burners, it’s a “fill yer boots” deal. Chasing marketshare with excess capacity has never been WS’s MO. There’s a good reason why AC’s results are perpetually weak in the winter and YUL-FLL on multiple daily flights on 767-300’s is a fine example of why that’s the case. No US carrier offers WB service from NYC to Florida, when obviously, they could, and would, if it were a profitable way to do things. Compare their winter margins to those of AC’s. Night and day.

AA definitely offers WB service from JFK to MIA.
