It would be helpful if you could post some information about the role, the duties, the time commitment expected, etc etc. Otherwise, applicants won't know what they are potentially letting themselves in for.

The moderator role is a volunteer position.

Could you provide a little bit of insight about the requirements of a moderator.
the truth does matter, guys. too bad it's often quite subjective. the truth is beyond the mere facts and figures. it's beyond good and bad, right and wrong...

I have performed similar roles in real life, but I'm not sure I could trust myself when it comes to something as anonymous as the internet.

Besides, a bit like jury service - you probably need a clean record, and I certainly don't possess one of those.
I've had so many posts pulled it's a miracle I'm still here at all. :cry2:

Still, I'm almost tempted. :scratchchin:
Nothing to see here; move along please.

You and me both, but I imagine this takes an enormous time commitment.

Having moderated and admins lots of online communities I can tell anyone this is not something to be undertaken lightly it’s a thankless task and a lot more work that most will realise or appreciated, best of luck to anyone who applies
Must think up a new one soon, slow moving brain trying to get into gear ;)

I would say that it depends, but we're happy to at least consider just about anyone. We all still participate as users in discussions, but we do have to hold ourselves to a higher standard for obvious reasons. If you feel you can rise to that challenge, then you're more than welcome to apply. As far as having a clean record, yours is pretty clean (only a couple of minor blemishes). If that surprises you, then you'll be happy to know that it surprises me too!

You are already quite active as it is, so it probably isn't as time consuming as you might think. Reviewing reports is generally fairly easy. The big reason we need more mods is to more proactively moderate threads — we've been short for quite a long time, so we've unfortunately been more reactive than proactive, which often leads to problems getting worse. If you're already on the site and reading threads, then you wouldn't be doing anything much differently as a moderator.

As an unconditional fan of a certain manufacturer that I will not divulge here, being a moderator would be for me a dream come true: objectively handling every versus debate and taking care of those users supporting the other manufacturer. I am already preparing my application! :cool2:

Are these positions for a certain term length, or just until someone somehow decides it’s time for a particular member to no longer be a mod?

How often do new mod positions get posted?
The plural of Airbus is Airbuses. Airbii is not a word.
There is no 787-800, nor 787-900 or 747-800. It's 787-8, 787-9, and 747-8.
A321neoLR is also unnecessary. It's simply A321LR.
Airplanes don't have isles, they have aisles.

The last time positions were posted were 3 years ago when myself and 3 others were appointed to the position as mods. There is no fixed term as such however it does require some commitment. Of course we all fully understand things change from time to time whether that is family situation, change of job etc of which may affect ones involvement to continue.

Do people with more posts/activity get priority over those who don't have as many?

There really is no prerequisite on how many years experience or how many posts you have made. Having been a moderator on here for just over 3 years now I have seen many times users with 200 posts posting better quality than others with 2000 posts. If you are interested in the moderator position I would encourage you to apply. Just remember to tell us a bit about yourself (job, location, how you got into aviation, etc) and also include your username when you apply

My two cents
1. You really learn the forum rules
2. Start the day going through the moderator panel on flagged messages, new user posts, and such.
3. Read a thread before posting to ensure posts meet the rules
4. Accept you IM box will be full of " it was the other user's fault messages."

I am surprised how much I have learned as a moderator. I have taken the skills learned here to moderate my kids Pokemon board, school coaching, and parenting.

I find it rewarding. We have tools to help. It really is a great team to join. You still get to have opinions, you just really learn to post within the rules.

I joined as part of the batch of new mods 3-years ago. I've been posting on a.net 14 years after lurking a full year.

On the forums where I have modded over the last +10 years, it was always standard process to never ask for a moderator application, but people were chosen by the admin/mod team and asked it they would like to join the moderator team. That was always done based on certain criteria (each forum is different). I found that process to be rather good and new team members were always on probation for a few months which also helped.

I won't be applying as I travel too much. Good luck in the search.

Very interested and sent an email but got an automated reply saying:

Your email to group [email protected] was rejected due to spam classification. The owner of the group can choose to enable message moderation instead of bouncing these emails.

Seems to have failed. Don’t know why? Mods, Any ideas, thanks?

Strange. I haven't heard of anyone say they've had issues contacting us before. Maybe try again, or try with a different email account?

Tried with two others. The latter seems to have worked. So two failed with same email response and third went through... I think...

Apologies if you have three identical applications... :rotfl:

Hopefully the last came through!

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick note to ask that this thread be kept purely for questions/discussion related to the recruitment of new moderators. It is not a free-for-all to discuss moderator actions or debate individual perceived site issues etc. All discussion not relevant to the thread title will be removed.

Thanks

Anyone applying has my utmost respect. I was one of the very first moderators - I'm not even sure whether any of the originals are still active. It has been 14 years since I was forced to quit due to a stupid incident and I am still a bit pissed off about it, truth be told. ;)

Just do your best and assure you are moderating with a clear head and not in a bad mood. ;) When you get equal complaints from the left and the right, from the B's and the A's, etc., you'll know you're doing a great job. :)
