I wonder how much longer this route will last being that it is a "dead end" destination for AA.

AA has talked about making it a year-round flight so... I wouldn’t say it’ll go away any time soon.

According to the DOT it was the worst AA transatlantic market last summer. If they talk about it going year round it's just a scare tactic.

I was surprised FI launched DFW as year round. They were originally going to cut the route in March but unexpectedly flew the last flight in February. They were doing fine in the summer with WOW against them.

AA was not operating the Max to JFK much, and when they did, before the groundings, it was just an one off MIA rotation. I think you're saying the Max groundings are causing capacity to be shifted around the system, and then yes, I can see the 737's used on many AA transcons from JFK being redeployed.

1. Runway construction at JFK began April 1

2. No one has announced schedule reductions for the runway construction (even though it will be a nightmare)

3. I want credit for calling AAs demise at JFK 2 years ago. It is now well underway (thank you Doug Parker)

4. AA will reduce the feeder flights to 1 daily for now. It is a last gasp we have seen played out at dying hubs for decades.

5. We will know shortly if UA is really serious about returning to JFK

6. We will continue to see AA beef up hub flying at JFK as it is a safe use of slots.

7. Watch MXP and FCO. They are the next weak links for AA at JFK

8. The Max has never flown to JFK for AA. Just saying

Its absolutely due to the MAX. AA has been adding flights at JFK year over year over the last 12 months before the MAX grounding.

34 aircraft in a fleet nearing 1,000 should not cause AA to retrench so much at JFK. Truth is, they are being handed their hat by DL and B6. Hub-to-hub flights and the LHR flights will be all that is left eventually.

Agreed on Norwegian. If you are talking about AA, I think they would cut the worst flying which is apparently JFK. Norwegian doesn’t really have a choice of what to cut except with the 787 now operating SWF-DUB.

Exactly. I think that’s 90% of what everybody is going. I would like to see WN’s cuts.

So I’ve mentioned this before, but after the VP of network at AS left in NOV they have basically frozen these sorts of strategy changes until the job is filled. It still is not, but will be soon. I think SFO’s future is job one for the new person. So they are in a holding pattern.

AS did say only a planned 2% growth for this year, right? PAE is probably taking up some of that. We probably shouldn’t expect to see a lot of growth from them this year.

Sure, some is PAE. But isn't part of the point of PAE to shift traffic away from overcrowded SEA vs. all of PAE being growth?

Not unless they have *cut back* service at SEA, or are planning to do so. Do we have evidence of that?

Maybe PAE isn't suppose to be served by 737's & A320's afterall. I wish all 24 flights were on all mainline.
Why endure the nightmare and congestion of LAX when BUR, LGB, ONT & SNA is so much easier to fly in and out of. Same with OAK & SJC when it comes to SFO.

AF has decided to halve the A380 fleet, cutting it down from 10 to 5, because the plane is too large for their network and not profitable, except for a handful of routes that they operate on. The cost of upgrading the interiors was also proving costly, so the fleet is being trimmed to 5. JFK will still get the A380. I am booked on one in May, returning in June.

Um, no. AA has added very flew flights at JFK and their operational sizing at JFK has nothing to do with the MAX, beyond the runway closure and the need to move some planes around the system to make up for the MAX not operating. AA has never scheduled the 737 MAX 8 into JFK. American has been cutting flights at JFK, not adding, regardless. PAP, MCO, SJU, ZRH were all cut recently. SAT was the only real new ad.

Cutting unprofitable flying and replacing it with profitable flying is only dumb on A.Net.

Mainline departures year over year have been up every month, I haven't checked March yet but I am sure they are well down and that directly related to so many aircraft out of service (The MAX and I'd add the Oasis Aircraft). JFK is the weakest margin airport so those are natural cuts.
At the end of the day (This sin't what is going to happen however) if AA only Flew to Hubs and LHR and mode lots of money that is called wining not having their butts handed to them. Flying places just because (its cool or cache or historic) and always loosing money is insanity!
