Some basic info so far...

https://6abc.com/crews-responding-to-ca ... y/5153229/

“The Federal Aviation Administration issued an Alert Notice (ALNOT) on Atlas Air Flight 3591 after losing radar and radio contact with the Boeing 767 approximately 30 miles southeast of Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The aircraft was flying from Miami to Houston.”

There seemed to be a line of storms north of the flight path. Not sure if the flight encountered them.

Yikes. Hope the crew is ok, or at the very least it was quick. It’ll be interesting to see what caused this.

Thoughts to those onboard and their families. Given that was an Amazon flight it likely rules out CoG issues that we can see in cargo situations.

Will be interesting to find cause. CVR and FDR should be relatively recoverable given the location.

You are probably thinking of a Windshear. They only really come into play on approach. Let's wait and see what the facts show.

Downbursts usually are only dangerous on final approach, which it seems this flight was not. Also modern airliners are equipped with equipment to detect downdrafts. I think we'll have to see if there was a mayday call to have a clue what happened.

A friend that's a commercial pilot posted a reply on Facebook that they're getting beat up by turbulence all over Texas today.... moderate to severe turbulence being reported by other pilots.

It was descending normally at around -2000fpm until the last 90 seconds or so of flight. Whatever happened, it must've been very quick and sudden.

Indeed something went drastically wrong at about 6500ft because it went from -2000fpm to -4700fpm and the final reading of -7000fpm within a minute.

There was the UPS A300 a few years ago. Before that, the last mainline jet that I recall crashing in the US was the AA A300 in 2001.

But yes, tragic as today's events are, we are fortunate that it is such an incredibly rare occurrence.

I'll be interested to learn what happened. 767s don't just normally fall out of the sky like that.

Heading went from 311 to 330 back to mid 270s in the last 2 minutes of flight. Speed also dropped from 300 to 245 in that time.

True, but there were still people on the plane. 3 (possibly confirmed?) deaths is still 3 too many...

Prayers and thoughts go out to the families of those on board...

Trinity Bay is only about 2-3 meters deep. There's a good chance the CVR and FDR are burried deep in the mud. My condolences to crew.

He was a little callous about it, but I understand his point. Three lives lost are too many, especially if it's your family member. But 3 is a lot better than 250 lives lost.

Tragic as this is, we can also be thankful it wasn't far worse.

Maybe. Reports say it went down at 1245pm, so the image from 1220 makes sense.

Very sad, as others have shared, my condolences to the families and friends of the crew.

The picture show she was a lovely bird, so many questions as to what happened, what caused this.

It will be quite the excavation project. Lots of weirs or one giant one surrounding the impact site. One thing though is that it is likely a fairly compact crash area. Most of the aircraft, all the energy, absorbed by the mud and water.

Again, my heart goes out to those affected.

Would a flight like this have a loadmaster? Or is the 3rd person likely to have been deadheading?
