Air Canada 330 Reconfiguration

Sat Feb 16, 2019 5:40 pm

Yesterday, during Q4 2018 announcement, Air Canada announced it would be spending $275M on its 12 A330s to be reconfigured to 787 standards. Will this mean the same B/E seat in J? Mood lighting? Any ideas on possible LOPA? It will be interesting to see if they can fit 4 abreast in J compared to their current odd-ball 1-1-1 XM outdated J.

Yes, it means reverse herringbones as in their current Boeing widebody fleet, in a 1-2-1 format...something multiple airlines already do (such as VA, CX, MU, etc.). I don't know about mood lighting.

I am curious about when this happens exactly (I know, “starting Q4"). I'm on a YUL-LHR flight for next Xmas and it's still showing the old herringbones on the seatmap.

I suppose they can't guarantee which configuration it will be based on what fins will have undergone the refurb by then...

Absolutely, and I'm guessing that full refits will be minimal by the end of 2019, the current J models will be the last ones to be done amongst the 12. I just hope LHR is the first to get them...

Let’s hope they don’t cram one more seat in every row in economy

When do the four additional ex-TAP planes arrive?

No FSNC so far have done 3-3-3 config in A330's Y and I don't see a reason why AC will.

Skyliner just reported:

ex CS-TOV ferried 21-22jun19 QPH-HND-YUL after cabin config

So, the "old" SQ birds will receive a new interior as well?

You know, the old XM seats have one bid advantage over the new seats: They don't deflate. The topic about the deflating new J seats on FT has 129 pages now.

Curious to see the retrofitted cabin as well. I think I saw the old SQ 330 seatmap appears on aircanada.com so not sure if the retrofit is just the seat cover part.

Still 2-4-2 in Y, but total seats on the aircraft will be going up by about 30...and that includes the addition of Y+.

Skyliner is incorrect. Cabin re-config was not performed. That plane is still in the J30/Y255 SQ configuration. Just slightly different fabrics for the Economy class cabin.
