I think it's 8 this year, 6 from next year. Last year was 1 a month.

Last year deliveries were 12, this year I expect 12 again. 3 for ANA and 9 for Emirates.

The undisclosed order for 10 A380, which was the former Hong Kong Airlines order was canceled in December.

https://www.airbus.com/aircraft/market/ ... eries.html

The current backlog (up to 31 Dec 2018) = 87

Thanks for the information. I would have missed it otherwise.

So, after cancelling the Virgin- and the Hong Kong Airlines orders, there are just two disputable orders remaining:
Amadeo: 20
Air Accord: 3

And 8 for QANTAS are also zombies.

There are 53 for Emirates and 3 for ANA undelivered.

56 credible orders to be filled. That’s still 7 years backlog!

Ah, forgot about the eight QF airframes. For some time I thought QF keeps these orders and will use them later for replacing their oldest A380s, which have performance-limitations in comparison to the A380s available right now. But since QF will soon refurbish the cabins of all twelve A380s, my assumption seemed to be wrong.

A decade after the Qantas Airbus A380 took to the skies, the airline’s 12-strong superjumbo fleet will soon head into the hanger for a mid-life makeover.
The first red-tailed A380 will get its revamp in March 2019, with the tip-to-tail upgrade being overseen by Airbus.
It’s expected to take until the end of 2020 for all twelve A380s to be refurbished. Here’s what you’ll see in Qantas’ spruced-up superjumbos.

Source, article from January 3, 2019: https://www.ausbt.com.au/qantas-will-up ... -to-expect

I guess when the decision for the Project-Sunrise-RFP has been made, we will know more (either “recycling” the A380-orders into new A350-orders or – in case Boeing wins – cancelling them eventually ….(….. or keeping them? ….. :innocent: ….)).

Edit: I forgot this statement by CEO Joyce himself:
Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce said in December 2016 said the A380 fleet would remain at 12. “The 12 current aircraft we’re happy with and the eight that we have on order from Airbus we don’t see a need for them and we will keep pushing them out,” Joyce said at the time.”

Source: http://australianaviation.com.au/2018/0 ... -delivery/
How I wish he would have chosen a sentence with “we will keep pushing them out UNTIL …”

Well 2026 to be precise. They need all the time they can get! But it really will ( obviously) depend on RR and the Ultra. They will certainly not commit to production just for the A380! It would have to be for the 787/350.
RR are going through a very tough time at the moment. No ( more) room for costly errors. They will want to make money on the Trent10/7000 first. If no move from GE ( or P&W I suppose) on geared 787NEO would they bother to have an unnecessary fight? Not so sure.
In that scenario it's simply closure.Perhaps more likely frankly unless the whole concept of a 550-600 seater gains traction in the mean time.

Sorry makes no sense to me to have a discussion about A380 production in a thread about one order being cancelled. Too many threads on Anet, many of which are started by self opinionated flame baiters.

True, I just counted the deliveries excluding the prototypes, similar to the Wikipedia webpage of orders and deliveries, which is not yet updated.

One more than the L1011, interestingly. Or four more when counting the prototypes.

"Only 14" remain to be produced for EK - for any other airline that would be a whole fleet!

I've read suggestions elsewhere that ANA operating the A380 was intended only as a short-term thing and they don't plan to operate them long-term. Were these reports true, and if so, why?

In terms of taking a new frame delivered direct from the factory, yes.

If ANA liked the airplane and decided to have more, would Airbus reopen the production line for them ?? or would they take the EK's (if not removed from Airbus equation) which was changed to A350 ?

The product line, for now, will be open until 2021 so Airbus does not need to reopen it.

The line will be open until 2021, however it will only be completing already-confirmed frames. The A380 suppliers will be winding down production as soon as they have completed delivery of their already-ordered shipsets.

The Emirates frames are the last new-build A380s that will roll off the line. It is now too late for anyone else to order (and Airbus already would have reached out to any current and potential customers prior to making the decision to close the line, anyway).

Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways has announced that it will begin operating its new Airbus A380 aircraft in May of 2019. The carrier, which has an order for three Airbus A380s, has said that the aircraft will be used exclusively for its Tokyo Narita Airport to Honolulu International Airport routes, a popular route catering mainly to tourists. Tokyo to Honolulu is currently operated by the airline’s newest Image..787-9 Dreamliner aircraft in addition to Star Alliance partner United Airlines flying their Image.777-222(ER) /-224(ER) aircraft. ANA’s Airbus A380 service to Honolulu will complement its already thrice daily flights to the Hawaiian capital. The airline is also designing a new premier lounge in Honolulu which will feature direct boarding to the A380, a feature already in use by other carriers such as Emirates and British Airways in New York and San Francisco, respectively.
ANA ended up with an order for 3 A380s as part of a deal when they acquired a failed Japanese low-cost carrier Skymark’s slots at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. ANA then received Airbus’ support as a creditor to assume control of Skymark after the carrier filed for bankruptcy protection in 2015.

ANA outfited their A380s with 520 seats. The upper deck features 8 seats in first-class suites in a 1-2-1 configuration. These suites feature 32-inch monitors and a variety of storage options.
In addition, the A380 also holds 56.business class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. These seats don’t feature a door and have an 18-inch IFE screen with direct aisle access.
At the back of the upper deck, ANA fited 73 sets of premium economy class in a 2-3-2 configuration. These seats are similar to what is found on the other carriers with up to a 15,6-inch monitor and 38 inches of pitch.
The lower deck is configured with 383.economy class seats in a 3-4-3 configuration. Bucking the trend of the other airlines, ANA’s economy class have 34 inches of pitch and up to a 13-inch monitor. The rear lower deck of ANA’s A380s have 60.economy couch seats that ANA has branded ANA COUCHii. This seems to be a trend among some airlines. ANA’s COUCHii has leg rests that can be raised to create a bed. To top it off, ANA is providing bedding for the couch seats…

…..…Good luck, Lani! Take care …

The Emirates frames are the last new-build A380s that will roll off the line. It is now too late for anyone else to order (and Airbus already would have reached out to any current and potential customers prior to making the decision to close the line, anyway).

Not gonna say it's going to happen but if Emirates tomorrow said they will buy another 100 frames they would be built. This is not like the 757.

Them saying they wouldn't take all the frames they had on order last month is why the program is closing.

So within 5 years after closing the line due to a lack of interest, carriers will complain that there is no adequate replacement. And after 10 years of market studies, Boeing will launch a 7107 for the TOM (Top Of the Market) gap.

Curious to see ANA #2 fully painted. I understand that each aircraft will have a slightly different livery?

As neither EA or RR will supply engines, seems an extremely unlikely scenario, unless EK funds a new engine option, which is where the whole cancellation arose.
