FLLLAX is jetBlue’s highest yielding Mint route and they are adding a 4th daily in the summer. It would absolutely work but I think B6 is happy with the success of the service out of FLL and wouldn’t move it/compete with itself.

MIA has the Air Service Incentive Program that waives landing fees for 12 months. So far it hasn’t worked for PDX gaining a nonstop between the No.10 and No.18 CSAs in the U.S.

Just out of curiousity, does FLL have the most AC flights/seats in their Florida network? I would imagine MCO is very close. I believe YUL and MIA send multiple 763's daily.

Also would be interesting to know how Florida cities stack up against other cities in AC's US network in terms of number of flights/seats?

I believe peak YUL-FLL, operates 5 daily 763 which seats 282 pax.

YUL-MIA is 2 daily A319 at 136 seats
YUL-MCO is 3 daily flights, 2 A319 and 1 763
YUL-TPA/RSW daily A319
YUL-PBI daily mainline A320 at 146 seats

Thats just counting AC flights.

Speaking of DY at MIA (actually, it's DI (that's how it appears on fr24.com)), on Monday and Tuesday of this week, a Privilege Style 772 was used in place of the Norwegian Dreamliner on flights 7043/7044. It's leased. Will be used 6 times out of the week for a month or so. Currently resolving some 787 issues.

Anyways, marketing director at MIA, Chris Mangos, said that Japan is about a year away. We're hoping for announcement sometime in the winter.

You didn't link the article, but if it's the one I read on Facebook.....so they are focusing on Japan because everything else is falling apart. Beijing, Hong Kong & Shanghai are hampered by impasses in current bilateral agreements. To quote Mr. Mangos: “The Hong Kong route would only work via a Vancouver stopover, and neither the Hong Kong nor Canadian government has been able to negotiate additional frequencies. The impasse with the US-China bilateral agreement has halted any additional frequencies by Chinese airlines for US routes, which prevents potential launches to MIA from Shanghai or Beijing.”

Falling apart? There’s literally no U.S.-China frequencies available and no Canada-U.S. frequency for an HK carrier. That’s not “falling apart,” that’s simply what it is.

Tokyo is the second largest single city market from Miami, although China as a country is larger, so it makes sense to chase Tokyo. Plus it’s a huge market from Orlando and there would be some capture there, too.

In other news, MIA just unveiled an expansion proposal that would see the construction of two new hotels, interior improvements for the Central Terminal, a new security checkpoint for Concourses E & F which would have them connected behind security, demolition of Concourse G, and adding 3 new widebody gates and 3 new widebody hardstands to the South Terminal.

It’s interesting that AA wants to reconfigure the gates between D14 and D37 to accommodate more widebodies when they’re wasting widebody gates on the E satellite with E175 turns, though it’s understandable that they don’t want to send premium passengers out of a terminal that’s so far away from the lounges.

The simplest solution to me would be to close D24 and shift D25 slightly to the east so it can accommodate a 77W, then reconfigure D26 into another 77W gate. D1 can also accommodate a widebody (not sure if it can go as big as a 77W) and has an A-line striped but it would close widebody gate D2 in the process. Then again, once the 767 is retired no other widebody will fit on D2 anyway.

Once F is connected behind security with the rest of the North Terminal, oneworld partners AY/BA/IB/LA/QR can be put there, giving AA exclusive use of D and E. The non-aligned airlines bumped out of F can be accommodated at J with the addition of the new widebody gates and the removal of LA.

There's an AC in Terminal E, and it's probably one of the nicest ACs in the system because it's shared with BA/IB/QR, who appropriately better cater it.

There is legitimate question as to whether the whole "Air Ayiti" thing is for real. First, Haiti is not FAA rated category 1 hence my understanding no Haitian airline if there was one could start service to the U.S. ? Believe that is what kept Sunshine Airlines (a legitimate and operating Haitian airline) from starting service to Miami some time back. There were Facebook postings several years ago touting commencement of service that used photos of Delta Air Lines flight attendants. Then 2 months ago "Air Ayiti" was resurrected on Facebook as well as a web site advertising service that would be flown with "Eastern Air Lines" aircraft. Interesting in that the photos then showed an EA L-1011! So now this is an A320 ? Barring much more evidence of a real operation, this is likely the pipe dream of a Hollywood Fla. Haitian national as has been suggested by a number of online travel bloggers.

I'm excited for MIA! This project looks great and overall, seems like all terminals are going to have a more consistent theme/look. Only thing I'm not sold on is that 2nd hotel in front of E where the short-term parking is; I like that little park across from the terminal- it creates a nice open feeling. I feel like the 2nd hotel would create a canyon-effect with the existing hotel... not to mention traffic could be a cluster if the entrance is off the main circle drive.

Ironically, it reminds me of the O'hare Hilton - but that is set much farther back from T2 and it has it's own roadway and access, separate from the main terminal drive.
