2019 definitely going to be the year of the 777x - unless a MOM comes along to steal its thunder! ( will the 737-10 be assembled this year?)
For Airbus it's looking like a very quiet year in terms of new product development.Can anyone think of anything announced?

There should be a decision on MoM this year, either launch or no launch.

The only things I can think of are:

A319neo first delivery

A330-800 first delivery

A321XLR launch

Maybe it's the year of surprise? Boeing and Embraer announce the tandem development of NSA and MOM (ala 757/767) with PW and GE as partners on the former and GE and RR as partners on the latter. Everyone is happy! Embraer would partner more specifically on the E2/NSA replacement side.

Re other 797 thread really is looking like a launch.
Re Airbus.In terms of NPD one could only count XLR really -- and that's a bigger belly fuel tank -wow.But v important.
Perhaps they've run out of money and ideas? Ok bit rude I suppose.They will 'watch' 330neo sales in 2019.If slow then perhaps 2020 will be their big year.A tight / carbon 2-4-2? With the new engines? Sort of A310 reloaded.

Those engines man...I can't wait to sit in the terminal and watch those beauties coast into the gate. It's enough to make a grown man weep.

Anyone else notice a slight change in the fan blade design? On one side of each they look to be flattened out a bit in the middle vs. the old design. I wonder if that's meant to help mincing the frozen chickens.

The beast has engines..Holy smokes, they are huge..awesome fanblades with those curves.

This is gonna be a hell of an airplane..The 777 was and is Boeing.s masterpiece but this machine will be their finest hour.Sorry for all the Airbus fans but this is a real airliner..

Just joking..I.m a huge triple 7 fan and can.t wait to see it lift off for it.s first flight.

Bit of engine news is that GE at Nantgrw in South Wales is equipping to be a GE9X qualified shop. Make of that what you will but GE are saying that GE South Wales will lead the in-service maintenance buildup.

The only things I can think of are:
A319neo first delivery
A330-800 first delivery
A321XLR launch

The 777x going into flight testing is a milestone.

Airbus won't have an equivalent. But how spoiled we have become. There was a long time of little development.

What both need are widebody sales. With what appears to be a slow down in China, it might be a tougher year.

I'm more interested in 777x orders.

I really look forward to this airplane. Just not sure sales will be great for sometime if all the predictions are accurate about the economic downturn. For all our sake, lets hope its not to large. It will effect more than just new 777x sales.

Um. The plane is on its manufacturing stand, probably designed to make engine installation easier. It's not representative of what the real world ground clearance will be.

The GE90 is similar in diameter to the 737's fuselage, so this makes sense. Still impressive.

The horizontal stabilizer for the 777 also has more area than the wing of the 737-100 and 737-200.

I did read a link recently that mentioned February, might just be positive thinking on Boeing’s part but fingers crossed we see it in the air as soon as possible.

I read an article about flight testing starting in February as well. I suspect there will be at least two weeks for ground testing.

Look again and keep in mind how huge this engine is. That's more like 36 - 48". Anyway, as previously pointed out, the plane isn't sitting on its gear. It's much lower than it will be when it is.

I think the article says roll out will be in Feb, with first flight a month or two after that.
From the article: "Engineers and mechanics are preparing to roll out this majestic jet for its public debut as early as February. It’ll fly for the first time a month or two later."

The plane is sitting on its gear, but at the end of the video, the engine is not hanging from the plane. It's on the transportation dolly. They cut together the video out of sequence for some reason. The Air Current article has a picture of the engine actually on the plane:

A lot of people in the finance world are predicting a recession for various reasons, including that historically speaking, we're past due for one, and that several stock market factors look inflated. Stock markets have, in fact, been falling over the past year.

Then again, somebody is always predicting a recession. Even during the worst of it in 2009, there were people warning that the current turmoil was just the wakeup call, and the REAL recession was about to begin.

Regardless, it would be a major break with past history if 777X sales don't have to whether a recession at some point relatively early in the aircraft's history.

Watching this bird fly will be ( for me) one of the main highlights of the year.I notice- flightglobal - that the engines are now hung.Looking great.The fan blades on this engine are something to behold.The amount of air moved by each blade must be enormous.

So the 777x is maxed out on pavement loading with the 6 wheel bogeys at 351 tonnes (same MTOW as the -300ER) right? If airlines really wanted an MTOW bump would it be feasible for Boeing to introduce something like an 8 wheel truck with two wheels added over the center wheels (in a 2-4-2 wheel configuration) of the body gear with larger spacing between wheels?

Boeing was going to reduce the MTOW of the 77x relative to the 77W. And have a 99Klbs engine. But a few airlines led by STC wanted more. More payload. More range. More hot and high performance. So the MTOW ended up being the same, even though the engines are only 105klbs (bigger and better wings make up the difference). There was a rumor or two about upping the MTOW a little bit, but nothing came of that.

Does anyone also know how high the GE9X has been run up to (e.g. the GE90-115b was run up to 127k lb/f)?

What about the dates for static testing... haven't heard anything about that yet. The static testing is a must before the first flight anyway, but what will be covered throughout the year till its first delivery in 2020? I only know the rough outline of what happens, but not what really goes on during testing. And how many test frames are currently in production for testing, and when will the testing frames be engined?

I can't easily find news on this . . they have to be bending the wings already . . I would bet that after what happened with the 787, they are keeping mum until they can declare success.

Systems checks will take 1 to 2 months from rollout depending on how things go. When static tests and systems checks pass, it's on to flight test.

The youtube video says 6 test airframes. Without saying how they are split up or if the static test article is one of the 6 or not.
