Finnair expands in Norway: In cooperation with Widerøe, Finnair opens a new route to Trondheim in June 2019. The route will be operated 5x weekly all year-round. Additionally, a number of weekly flights to Tromsø will be increased from 1 to 3 weekly.

I noticed that yesterday's HEL-VIE was operated by Wideroe's E2. Are they leasing it on a regular basis?

Yeah, they wet-leased the aircraft on 15 December 2018 for routes to TXL and VIE. The leasing contract will end on 30 March 2019.

Yes, in addition to BGO-HEL, Finnair uses them a lot on HEL-VIE and HEL-TXL

With the contract, they filled the gap caused by the "temporary shortage of aircraft", which probably means that AY did some maintenance work. They are receiving a new Airbus A350 in April but no narrow-bodies this year.

Air India to decrease CPH service from 4 to 3 weekly on 3 May 2019. I wonder whether this is only a seasonal change and the service would be 4x weekly again during the winter season.

While loads are OK, Air India is apparently struggling with the yield on their Scandinavian flights

Great news! Ryanair nearly doubles their capacity to Lappeenranta. Budapest returns as a year-round service while SXF and BGY will be expanded from seasonal to year-round services. BUD route will be operated twice a week from Oct 2019. However, they will withdraw from Tampere leaving LPP as the only airport they serve in Finland.

Do you see Norwegian returning to any coastal port in Thailand like Krabi next W19-20? Krabi hasn't been confirmed to return although I guess it has seen good loads during its first season flown by Norwegian.

Outside of KEF, they only flew to CPH and ARN, so their presence wasn't that significant

From the WOW Financial thread, WOW had about 3,5 million PAX in 2018, and the total for KEF was about 10 million, so about 30-35% of KEF traffic

It's a shame that TMP will slowly die. Finavia keeps telling they're negotiating with multiple airlines to start Tampere and so many are interested but nothing happens...

Just a thought, are any of those WOW airbuses going on sale? Could be some frames for AY there in terms of the a320-321neo.

A war on domestic routes in Denmark could soon be reality. According to Danish media check-in.dk, SAS are currently planning to open CPH-RNN (Rønne/Bornholm) with 3 daily flights. If that happens DAT, who currently have monopoly on the route, will open CPH-AAR to compete with SAS' monopoly (with the exception of Nordic Seaplanes) on that route. Currently CPH-AAL is the only route with competition, with both SAS and Norwegian Air International operating. It will be the first time since the Cimber Air/Sterling days, that there'll be so much competition on domestic routes in Denmark.
The relationship between SAS and DAT is bad enough already, after SAS announced scheduled flights to RNN during "Folkemødet" (a political festival taking place on the island of Bornholm each year), once again a thing DAT had monopoly on and SAS even took over the sponsorship of the event from DAT.

A couple of days ago, SWISS Airbus A220-100 visited HEL to introduce the aircraft to Finnair. In September 2016, the larger A220-300 visited HEL for the same purpose. As Lentoposti says, A220 could replace the current fleet operated by Norra.

In the short term, yes, without a doubt. In the long term however, I'm a bit more sceptical. DAT have a loyal costumer base, because of the things they do for the local community. However if SAS' timings and prices are right, they might win some of the business travellers over, also because of the EuroBonus programme. That could be costly for DAT. During the summer and some of the other holidays, there's room enough for 2, but not in the winter.

SAS have fitted a new special panda-sticker on one of their A340s (LN-RKG) to celebrate that they have been announced as the airline of choice for transporting two giant pandas to Copenhagen Zoo. The pandas are a gift from the Chinese President to the Danish Queen Margrethe II.
The special panda flight will be SK996 PEK-CPH on April 4th and the pandas be transported inside the cabin.

The future of ARN is causing disagreement in the Swedish government. The minister for infrastructure and the social democrats want to expand Arlanda and double the current traffic, while their coalition partner the greens and the minister for environment are against it. Actually i thought that this would be the only viable option to replace the Embs. One question only remains, what about the turbo props?

Satakunnan Kansa newspaper revealed ambitious plans of Pori Airport. A Chinese company Conglomerate Ltd will invest up to 40 million euros in Pori Airport while the company's own airline, China Wings, will open three daily services to Beijing, Shanghai, and Hangzhou – all with Airbus A380s! The city of Pori and the Chinese company are going to sign a MoU today at 2.00 pm. The main purpose is to transport students to Pori from China.

The CEO of Conglomerate says the runway of the airport will be extended by 800 meters enabling the usage of A380s at the airport. Also, the terminal will become eight times as big as it's currently, to which up to 10 jetbridges will be installed. Flights are scheduled to begin on April 1, 2020. Furthermore, flights to North America will commence in 2021 at the latest and thus the airport will become a hub between the Far East and North America.

According to plans, the airport will be connected to Pori Metro (construction works are scheduled to begin in 2025).

FI will lease 2 additional 767s until September to cover for the MAX groundings, and has its eyes on a 3rd one as well. Not sure from where they're sourcing the aircraft and if what kind of lease deal it is, but good to hear they have the situation under control.

According to visir.is, the other main Icelandic media outlet, FI still hopes the MAX comes online as soon as possible due to the increased demand WOW's demise has caused. If the MAX comes online before high summer, FI will take the opportunity and use the additional lift the 767s provide to beef up its flight schedules during that period.

Don't know if I'd label involuntarily replacing brand new, fuel-efficient, 90 ton narrow-bodies with 30-year old, 185 ton, wide-bodies 'under control'. A better phrase might have been 'we only have lemons, let's make some lemonade'.

Better to at least have a solution if the grounding goes longer than expected, they've probably looked for 757s as well but those are very hard to get due to the demand from the freight companies. But I see your point.

Rickard Gustafson (SAS) says in an interview with Bloomberg that SAS is looking to lease more A321LR in addition to the 3 aircraft announced in January - if the flights are successful. SAS is planning on using the A321LR from secondary cities to larger markets, or the other way around.

Why do you think that is justified and what other network airlines have succeeded with 2-3 hubs on a home market with 20 millions?

BT have announced they're adding a 3rd weekly KEF-RIX flight and extending their seasonal service until late October. This comes on the back of W6 adding frequency on multiple routes in the last week and HV adding year-round AMS service. Seems like European airlines are showing interest in filling the void WOW left behind.

Does anyone know what kind of loads has AY had this season from TMP and TKU to KTT?
