Failure of German Air Force A340 could be sabotage

Fri Nov 30, 2018 7:38 am

Yesterday a German Air Force Airbus A340 with Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel on board had to make an emergency landing at Cologne-Bonn airport due to failure of all radio communication systems while enroute.
According German newspaper Rheinische Post the intelligence services are investigating the incident as a criminal act. The failure could be because of sabotage.
The pilot had stated the complete failure of communications was unprecedented.

The pilot used the satellite phone to communicate with air traffic control.

The aircraft took of from Berlin Tegel airport and was on its way to Argentina for the G20 summit.
Just when it passed Amsterdam the aircraft returned to due radio failure. The crew decided not to return to Berlin but made an emergency landing at Cologne-Bonn.
As the aircraft did not dump fuel firebrigade was on standby to cool the breaks. People had to stay onboard for 70 minutes.

The A340 of German Airforce are notorious for their failures. See this German Bild article

Already discussed here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1409555
And the original statement was: Es wird in alle Richtungen ermittelt (Investigation goes in all directions). "It could be sabotage." is what the papers made of it. It has as much truth as "It could be an attack of the aliens wanting to invade the Earth."

The pilot is also quoted with a total loss of communications which is unusual
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

There is significant redundancy of separate communication systems. Satcom works fine, but is not meant for this.
We can be sure an extensive review will done to make clear what happened, how to prevent this.

Any such statements, if they're made by the BLÖD (and I refuse to click on that link out of principle) should be taken with a barrel of salt. The sabotage claim, until it isn't confirmed or also suspected by more serious news outlets, sounds more like a way to generate clickbait by the tabloid with the four letters.

This is in any case an embarrassment for the German federal government (especially for the Flugbereitschaft) no matter who's responsible.

And she can't the even claim for EU261 as it's not a scheduled flight.

Update: It was not sabotage but some black box going offline.
They should just keep one of their Globals plus crew(s) on standby 24/7 shouldn't they?
