TWA L1011 service from PHL-STL

Fri Oct 19, 2018 7:08 pm

Good afternoon all...I have tried to look all over but had no luck. Back on December 19, 1986 I flew from PHL to STL on an L1011 (then flew to MLI on a DC-9). I am trying to find out where the PHL-STL flight went on from STL. I do remember that the flight left at about 6:30 am from PHL. Anyone have any insight? thanks!

Diving into timetables from a few years earlier it appears it was PHL-STL-LAX in 1984. These timeables do not list the operating aircraft.

TW had some wild widebody flights during the regulation era. My mom used to tell she flew home from college a few times on an L1011, CVG-STL.

Looks like it was TWA 443 and was PHL-STL-LAX, that is according to the 1984 timetable. Left STL at 0915 arrived LAX 1015

I remember flying a 767-200 CLE-STL and a L1011 MIA-FLL (shortest flight I ever took)

In the 10/86 OAG a TriStar leaves PHL at 0645 to STL-SFO. In the 2/87, the 0630 departure to STL is an MD80 -- no TriStar until 0900, which goes to STL-LAX.

Flew on TW 762 CMH-STL and STL-CMH

I remember TW L10 next to my gate in STL departing for PHL

I believe TW L10s were placed in PHL for LHR flights

Love those TW L10s!

For most of the 70s & 80s TW 443 LAX-STL was usually an L1011. I rode it STL-LAX several times during 70s & 80s, don't remember where it originated from?

Thank you for the responses. The flight back (STL-PHL) was on the L1011. I believe the original flight arrival into PHL was 4:00 pm. But the flight I was on on January 7, 1987 was 4 hours late bc of a flap problem. I was only 11 and flying with my younger sister solo. I also remember watching tough guys (Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas on the way back). How I remember that is anyone’s guess :D

June 1981 I did the TW 707-131B MIA-FLL-MIA up and back same day...same plane...on the ground at FLL for a quick turn. Revenue Pax.

My only 1011 flight was PHL STL, on my way home to Houston from a business trip. There was a non-stop on Eastern, but idiot travel department of my company had booked me with connection (forget who with, but it was a really stupid one). Was able to change to TWA, better connection, cool plane.

1984 or so.

December 1986 wasn’t a happy time for TWA. Icahn was stripping it bare; mechanical problems at an all-time high (TWA reportedly had the highest number of mechanical and structural defects reported amongst the majors during that time period); and the vast majority of TWA flight attendants on the property at the time were scabs from the strike earlier in the year.

I have also been on some very short TWA widebody flights. I recall MCO to STL and JFK to STL on an L1011 as well as 762 from STL to ORD. Fun stuff!

For a while in the early 90s they were flying PHL-JFK in an L1011. That was a short trip!

In the late 90’s (1999, maybe?) my first trip to LAX from STL was on a 762, which was my first widebody. I believe that the LAX-STL flight home was on an MD-80.
