Congrats to CHS; what an interesting flight. This will now have airport directors in such places as Louisville, Omaha, etc chomping at the bit for a similar limited service (not that I think those are good candidates for LHR service).
This also continues with BA's selection of cities that are hip, trendy, economically strong, growing, and have great long term growth potential and success for the flight. They have a great track record... AUS seeing 747s, BNA going daily, etc, and I think CHS will be a surprising success.
As far as this being CHS's first trans-Atlantic service, I seem to remember something about CHS being a gateway for charter flights to Africa in the 1980's by World Airways? Does anyone remember this?

Why? It is, and it is. Especially when considering the flight's entire catchment area.

It is half the size of the market of CMH
Sure there are manufacturing facilities in the area Boeing, Volvo, e.t.c but those aren't corporate HQs or North American HQs, so I doubt there is a serious amount of travel from those facilities to Europe daily.
Combine CHS with SAV and you are nearing CMH's numbers. Then add tourism demand to HHH and MYR and some additional demand from CAE and the folks who will drive from as far away as JAX and you now have a respectable market.
