United CLE-CLT 767-400 today

Sun Oct 07, 2018 6:58 pm

Why is United flying a 764 today on flight 2545, would a charter have a flight number that low?

Interesting routing, it appears to have flown EWR-CLT-IAH-CLE-CLT between yesterday & today, I couldn’t find the flights in the city pair search on the mobile app...

Maybe taking NY Giants to CLT for an NFL game then taking the Astros to Cleveland for MLB and then repositioning back to CLT to take the NY Giants home?

united.com doesn’t show the gate number. I wonder if all the gates in the new concourse can handle widebodies. None of the airlines that use it fly them into CLT as part of their regular schedule.

Most likely. The Astros game is Monday. Timing and routes seem exactly what you describe.

Mainline revenue sections are 1-2400. Charters and repos for charters are 2500-2800 usually. Express is 4000-6000

Definitely a sports charter. Today the Titans charter from BUF is UA 2542. A B753.

A27 can but only up to a B763W.

Sports charters almost always go to an FBO however.

There were 2 UAL B764's that flew IAH-CLE Saturday night. One brought the Astros to Cleveland, the other the Indians. I'm assuming one was ferried to CLT for an NFL charter today.

It's probably taking the Falcons home from playing the Panthers in Charlotte.

Yessir, a number of UA 764s and 753s are used by NFL teams on weekends and similar to when teams arrive and depart PVD, they have a private charter terminal away from the public complex with its numbered gates.

It flew EWR to CLT to bring the Giants here then ferried out to take the Astros to CLE, ferried back to CLT to take the Giants to EWR.

I am surprised the PJ terminal can handle 250 passengers.

An ATL team not using Delta is sacrilegious! LOL

Do we really need a thread every time a someone finds a widebody flying a non-routine route?
UA's charter flight numbers start at 25xx and before someone else starts another thread let me say UA also flew a 789 on LAX-ATL-LAX yesterday, it was the LA Dodgers flight number 2502.
UA handles a lot of sports charters from the major leagues to college teams so occasionally UA widebodies will make an appearance on routes they don't normally fly.

Sports charter for the NY Giants. They lost. #KeepPounding
Anyways, saw it land while at work today. Pretty cool. As for widebodies at the new Concourse, no. Biggest plane that can handle is an A321. However the renovations at the old A Concourse has most of the gates with wide body markings.

What we don’t need is someone answering the same question that was already correctly answered within the same topic (see post 10)

I remember seeing a DL L1011 parked at A1 in late 1992 or early 1993 which was a diversion. I cannot remember what year they expanded concourse A but it opened around September 1986 four years after the new terminal opened. A1 was DL’s only gate even though they had two gates in concourse C before (C2, C4) and A3, A5, A7 were AA gates and on the other side of concessions, so A1 had more room then.
