It was a matter of time: with new competitors arriving every other day and a deregulated environment, Argentina's domestic air market is not for the faint of heart. Andes, the weakest of all domestic airlines, has announced it will be returning 2 738 from its fleet to the lessor. Macquarie Leasing, although no staff reductions are planned at the moment.
Without AR's, AV's or LA's deep pockets, the investors behind Flybondi, or the backing of Norwegian or JetSmart, it appears the options for Andes are thinning. A merger perhaps is on the cards?
