North Central & East Coast Florida Thread - 2018

Sat Sep 22, 2018 3:54 pm

A few people have been asking for it, so...here ya go ! :bouncy:

Covering JAX, UST, GNV, DAB, MLB, VRB

Jacksonville International Airport (JAX)

Silver Airways is leaving. This leaves JAX without a nonstop to TPA, first time in decades

Northeast Florida Regional Airport(UST)

Elite Airways has dropped it's Mayo Clinic shuttle, so UST is out. That leaves Via Air as the only carrier.

Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV)

Not a whole lot happening @ GNV, but you guys can keep track of charters for Gators games, home & away
DL seems to have added capacity on their early morning flight. Was a Boeing 717, now it's an A320 . A few days in November, it's an MD-80. Haven't seen an aircraft that big since Eastern with 727-200....and that was a loooong time ago !

Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB)

Sunwing starts service on Mondays & Thursdays starting January 28, 2019 with Boeing 737-800

Melbourne International Airport (MLB)

AA will start PHL on Saturdays starting Feb 16, 2019. On December 19, AA goes from two to three CLT flights, but loses mainline. Elite was to start EYW on October 19, but that has been canceled. PWM, ISP, BIM flights remain. Porter is returning, not sure of the date and which routes

Vero Beach Regional Airport (VRB)

Elite Airways is currently fliying to AVL & EWR

PLEASE, ENJOY THE THREAD :spin:

I love the DH shot. Between business in south Georgia and annual family trips to Amelia Island, JAX is one of my most frequent destinations. The ease of use is great and the renovations were sorely needed, but it also seems to have lost a ton of capacity in the past 10 or 15 years.

Well we had the AA A321 incident where a student pilot jumped the fence and tried to do something with the plane at MLB recently...

DAMN !
I was just scolding someone about this the other day

That should be ORLANDO MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

A.net hasn't changed the name in it's files

Another tidbit on MLB is the 6am DL ATL flight is being upgauged to a A321 in October.

Regarding Porter, they’re back at MLB around December 18th. Weekly flights to YOW, YTZ and YQG.

Good for Melbourne landing PHL nonstops. Here's hoping American will send that about 80 miles up the coast as well- I wouldn't mind having an alternate hub to connect through on either airline to get into DAB.

Has there been anything on the Delegation DAB sent to NYC just a few days ago? I haven't heard anything since their FB post on it (https://www.facebook.com/flydaytonafirs ... 180522244/)

any speculation on what it could be? I am thinking it could be discussions for BOS flights or perhaps a 2nd JFK flight

Yep, I'll be on it October 13th. Come November, it is going to a 737-900ER. The 5:30pm flight also goes up to an Airbus A320.

I found it surprising there was no mention in the terminal of Sunwing when I left yesterday. They had orange and white balloons in the terminal last week with their logo.

Not surprised to see that. The RON at DAB is often upgauged, be it a 738, 321, or 757. It's interesting to see how similar service at the two airports is.

I am wondering how is JetBlue doing at DAB and will MLB be a possibility for JetBlue in the future.

Considering MLB is marketing itself as an Orlando area airport now, I'm not sure JetBlue sees much value added in serving both.

86% LF for the year, which is better than I thought it would be. That's compared to DL's 93% and AA's 89%.

I've found it interesting that the etched glass at CO's former counter at DAB still remains. Kind of an interesting reference to the past when all the others were removed long ago.

WOW...new service at GNV

AA starting GNV-DFW on March 3....daily/year round.

Anyone know why Northeast Florida Airport IATA and ICAO codes are different?

Take that for what it is worth...

But I am worried

When did you hear that? About a week ago you seemed confident it would be sticking around. They're seeing some pretty nice loads in the busy season and they're carrying more pax to JFK than CO averaged to EWR. They had 3 months with 90%+ loads, but August didn't do well this year.

http://www.flydaytonafirst.com/core/fil ... -Stats.pdf

Also Runway 7L/25R at DAB is closing for about 15 days starting Sunday so air carriers will be using 16/34.

Let's put it this way. If B6 is having trouble making JFK work (which could probably be fixed easily once the A220 comes online with them), PHL will DEFINITELY not work. I'm going to be honest, if DL ran an A220 on LGA/JFK-DAB it would probably be more successful in the event B6 pulled out of DAB.

B6 dropped DAB.

DAB can't win without losing. :(

They tried DAB, it didn't work... the only thing you can fill to DAB on the daily is maybe a CR9 from DL or E175 from AA

I'm well aware of what DL has tried. They tried Saturday only service running at $600 round trip nearly a decade ago when economic conditions were not what they were today. Either way, oh well.

JAX has regular FedEx and UPS air cargo flights. A USPS facilitiy is also located on the airport. The surrounding area has several large sort facilities for both FedEx and UPS with both expanding in the last couple years with the addition of two large Amazon facilities.

Probably the 74 seater Q400 and the fact it's the only transborder route out of YQG and once a week at that.

Reported in another thread, although I can't find a press release. However, the flights do show up on the airline's site

Spirit starting JAX-BWI and JAX-FLL in February...flights appear to be daily

DAB....AA adding a 5th flight to CLT in March, making up for that lost B6 capacity, I suppose

Here's the press release, http://ir.spirit.com/news-releases/news-release-details/more-go-jax-spirit-airlines-celebrates-veterans-day-more-routes

Adding 2 routes before the first 2 even start is hopefully a good sign of Spirit's commitment to JAX.

That's what I figured. On a related note, Sunwing came to DAB today:

https://www.facebook.com/flydaytonafirs ... &__tn__=-R

Might be too much to read into given it could've just been an open area for a photo op, but that looks like Gate 5, which AA still lays some claim to but largely goes unused.

Honestly, once there are enough in the fleet and they finish the upgauges on the routes they want A220s on, I think the aircraft would be a viable option to fill in the void on LGA/JFK-DAB.

Should also be noted that DL is operating a mainline only schedule on JFK-JAX.

Good add IMHO despite their reputation. Keeps jetBlue in the loop despite their exit and brings United opportunities to the area as well.

I wonder where they'll stick Silver and Sunwing at DAB. DL has Gates 2 and 4, AA has 3 and uses 5 for overflow. B6 is abandoning 6, and I've never seen an airline use 1 in the 16 years I've had ties to the area.

Silver would presumably be ramp boarding, too; it seems to me most gates have a "Commuter Gate X" marking which can be seen from airside.

Sunwing is using 5 from what I can tell. They had that special flight recently that brought those travel agents and Sunwing personnel to visit and based on the pictures the aircraft was parked at Gate 5 so I'm assuming they will use it for their normal ops since it shouldn't interfere with AA's schedule anyway. The only time AA needs the overflow gate is if they have 2 RONs. Mind you Delta was using gate 6 as overflow until B6 started up, and used 1 when AirTran was in town for overflow. I actually boarded a Delta flight from Gate 1 in June of 2008 while they were doing repairs to Gate 2 I believe (and I'm guessing the 7:15ish departure was parked at Gate 4). As for Silver, the News Journal Article says they are going to take over jetBlue's ticket counter so I can only assume they'll be taking over Gate 6 as well.

from what I saw they initially parked at 1 or 3 and were towed to 5 around 4 PM from what I saw. I also know that aircraft had MX issues because they had to send a relief flight, but I dont know the specifics, and from what I saw the pictures were taken at 5 so I dont know exactly, which gate they plan to use, but i've heard they plan to use 1.

Could be. 1 hasn't really been in use for quite some time. There's really no overflow anymore that supports DL or AA needing to use it and DL already has two gates to cover their RON flights. That would probably leave Silver at 6 unless they both use 1 which is possible since their schedules don't overlap.
