JetBlue hints at new tail design

Fri Sep 07, 2018 8:12 pm

An internal memo was sent out that JetBlue has ferried an A320 (N779JB) down to BFM for “a fresh coat of paint and a new design”.

FR24 does indeed show N779JB flying JFK-BFM yesterday afternoon.
http://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/N779JB

I thought JetBlue was due for another tail design as everything seems to be Tartan, Barcode, Bubbles, and Prism(?). The A321s obviously have their own tailfin. I wonder what it could be as I am eager to see it.

There's too much Barcode and Prism in my opinion. I'd like to see a new tail design.

It says new Livery

NEW LIVERY COMING SOON: We can’t tell you what it is just yet, but N779JB flew down to Mobile, Alabama yesterday for a fresh coat of paint and a brand-new design. We expect the paint job to take about 10 days, and as soon as it’s finished, we’ll reveal just what it is on HelloJetBlue. But for now, we’ll leave it to your imagination! Stay tuned! | HelloJetBlue

There was some internal talk about new marketing awhile back and new stuff coming this fall but that’s all we know.

Oh well, they don't really need a new livery. The large titles and funky tail arts are already enough.

I have a feeling it's another theme jet rather than a rebranding. Also, new tail designs are being debuted annually on Jetblue's corporate anniversary, February 11th., from here on...

All I can say is they better not f*** it up. They have one of the best liveries in America. Timeless, even by 2018 standards.

So it's either coming out in United colors, Alaska colors, Southwest colors, Hawaiian colors, Spirit colors, or Frontier colors. Now we just have to argue which one it will be

Yup, I’d love to see some “retro” stripes tails make a return.

I would assume so. I would be shocked if they came out with a totally new design.

But with the decision on trans Atlantic to come soon maybe they are up to something.

You guys know what we do jetblue higher ups have perfected radio silence.

I feel like it’s already too bland to screw it up going in that direction. What can they do; remove the blue engines and underside? Abstract design? Their tails already seem that way. Maybe a “noisy” design, or one that isn’t “premium” :scratchchin: . (Honestly I think their current design looks pretty premium/classy/conservative).

God I hope not. We don’t need another aircraft in the sky representing them ! Although it would be interesting to see a Patriots logojet next to the NY Jets aircraft :stirthepot:

I just got an alert on facebook, that it was there...it returned to JFK from Mobile at 3:00AM...left JFK around 7:30AM and it's first flight was to SRQ...just saw it takeoff on runway 32

It's cute. B6 typically does special liveries well. For those with more knowledge of Puerto Rico, what's the significance of the kites on/near the tail?

Kite flying is a popular activity at El Morro in Old San Juan, so it's likely a reference to that. One kite looks like a Coqui as well.

That’s very cool of them sending it to SRQ first, wish I could have taken a photo of it. With only 1 or 2 daily flights JetBlue does send a lot of special liveries down here.

I was hoping for a rebrand with less of a focus on red eye flights from the West Coast to JFK. I’ve never flown B6, would like to since they serve nearby RNO with a flight to JFK but red eyes to the East Coast don’t interest me. I’m worthless the entire next day. Can’t sleep on planes so I search for airlines with daytime flights.

No. It’s another manifestation of JetBlue’s commitment to Puerto Rico, and a celebration of the island. And there’s more than one Vacations plane.

El Morro is just below the kites on the fuselage.

Another kite appears to be in the shape of dice. Legalized gambling/casinos aren't the novelty they were 20 years ago when I'd visit PR as a kid before it became more commonplace on the mainland (or at least outside LAS, GPT, ACY, etc.), but there are quite a few casinos in San Juan.

Personally, I think they should also consider a name change. Especially if they want to fly to Europe, something more international sounding would benefit the airline greatly. Everyone and their mother thinks of JetBlue as the little darling domestic carrier with cute little narrow body planes. From what I am hearing, A more significant rebranding might be in the works.

Personally, its horrible. JetBlue needs to stop acting like a legacy airline and just be the domestic low cost carrier that they are.

Dude pick a side. On one hand you want them to change their brand and name (yeah right) so they can fly to Europe and be more international but you also want them to “stop acting like a legacy and just be a domestic low cost carrier” pick one.

How does painting a plane make them “acting like a legacy” jetblue has a tone of different paint jobs from FDNY to NYPD or Vets in blue or Blueprint or The jets plane and so on. I don’t know if you know this but PR plays a big part in the jetblue network. We took over the empty AA terminal and have done well down there. We also have a massive amount of crewmembers from PR so this isn’t a shock and it’s a good looking plane.

Here is some work jetblue did that they never even talked about.
https://thepointsguy.com/2017/10/jetblu ... enter-sju/

Now one question what is this big rebranding you are hearing about because that is news to me.

Why change something that is not broken? It is a distinctive name. Remember it wasn't that many years ago people in the northeast and Florida probably didn't know much if anything about Southwest. Now thanks it partnership with the NFL, massive expansion and nationwide advertising they are a household name. It makes zero sense for B6 to re-brand, even if they jump into for TATL foray.

I like that classic livery too, except the tail.

I always thought jetblue could expend on its niche and capitalize on nostalgia by re-branding itself into a golden-age themed carrier. From the planes to the uniforms and service. Make the flight itself the experience.

Which is a very interesting idea. I totally agree. Mix old school/new school. Jetblue sits on tons of history at JFK with the old TWA terminal being incorporated into T5. We should capitalize on it.

They did it a little when the retro jet came out.
https://airwaysmag.com/airlines/jetblue ... e-jet-age/

What would also be nice is if we do go trans Atlantic maybe a specific Europe uniform. From what I hear it would be all mint trained FAs only so it would be cool to ramp it up even more.
