Will APF ever get airline operations?

Sat Jul 21, 2018 7:37 pm

I could see Silver flying to Orlando and maybe even Tampa from Naples.

Elite Airways used to operate there but their crj aircraft apperantly are “too loud” and some people at the airline even got death threats.

Who knows....

APF has scheduled service on ExecAir, a small Florida regional carrier.

Help me understand the market...with Fort Myers some 45 miles up the road...how does that make sense?

It’s not even 45 miles; closer to 30. And not a terrible drive. But, the Naples area caters to a very weathy population; especially “in season”. I would think jetblue would move one of their multiple JFK/BOS flights during the season to APF if they could. I thought there was some sort of airport limitation. But I’m not sure.

So perhaps a JetBlue E190 from APF to BOS, JFK or even perhaps HPN??? Though I see that JetBlue does operate HPN to RSW as it is.

True. It probably would have a good seasonal market; It certainly did back in the day....I can remember PBA (Provincetown - Boston Airways ) used to regularly fly the MIA-APF route. They'd fly their DC3's down to MIA and run MIA-APF then go back up north later. This was in the late '70's, early '80's.

I remember Piedmont using F28s into APF during their Intra-Florida days. Forget what the route was.

And didn't DL do APF-ATL as well in CRJ? I was surprised that didn't stay around longer.

Where is AFP? Would help if you would give the city name.

Yes DL/ASA flew the CRJ with I believe only 44 seats to Naples, FL from ATL. I took it once. Great flight, easy in town airport.

I've always thought it would be a great seasonal destination from ATL or NYC, but given how PBI seems to not drive revenue premium over FLL, in spite of the concentrated wealth next door, I'm not surprised APF doesn't either vs RSW.

KAPF is Naples, Fla. - and if you don't know, it can easily be looked up within 15 seconds at Google.com. On a side note, KAFP is Jeff Cloud Field in Anson County, N.C.

Aircraft with an MTOW above 75,000 lbs. are prohibited at Naples so JetBlue doesn't have an aircraft that can legally operate there.

I feel like there was a thread not too long ago about Naples. Didn’t National fly 727s there?

Thanks. When I worked at Fort Myers Approach we would get the question about airline ops to APF quite a bit.

In the early 2000s DL flew a CRJ-200 ATL-APF but the price was never even close to competitive with anything going into RSW. I could never justify the cost over the extremely cheap flights into Ft. Myers and the 40 min drive to Naples. If I remember correctly ATL-APF rt was about $500-$600. You could and probably still can get a nonstop from any major market for $200 rt or less depending on season to RSW. Not surprised DL didn't last at Naples.

I'm not sure I'd call this a "regional carrier" since it has no authority to operate scheduled service.
