RR - 787 glider list

Fri Jul 13, 2018 6:50 pm

Is there a current list of 787 gliders affected by the RR engine issues?, ideally with last flight, and ETA back to full health please.

There are a few, BA and VS at LHR, starting to change colour, with the dust.

LATAM has about five 787-9s stored in SCL, including CC-BGG.

Air New Zealand has ZK-NZF at the moment.

Didn't realise it was so long on the ground, perhaps they should use them as gliders and tow behind a 747 to JFK, that would free up another aircraft. :rotfl:

It's a good thing Air India didn't select RR engines. Half of their fleet would probably never fly again at this rate.

8 of the 20 LA 787s are on the ground, and have been for a while now. Is there a reason they are affected more than any other 787/RR airline? Do they benefit financially the longer this drags on, particularly if the economy is not going well?

BA 788 G-ZBJE and AV 788 N784AV may be 'damaged' leading to their long term storage.

Is there a list of those that are grounded but then get back in the air?

I'd also like to know the reason for the number of grounded LA 787s compared to other carriers. What explains this?

That would have been way better for RR, just contribute to "Air India's maintenance practices"

BTW, they didn't pick GTF either for their NEOs Got lucky twice.

GE didn't offer free swaps, even when GEnX engines were getting PIPed for months.

The Rolls-Royce that makes jet engines (and marine propulsion systems and industrial power systems and steam turbines and nuclear reactors) is not the same business as the Rolls-Royce Motorcars. Rolls-Royce Motorcars is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BMW Group since 1998.

I wonder if any of these problems at RR can be attributed to the 787 style of farming out and subcontracting production to other corners of the world. Basically would it have happened if Derby and Bristol were responsible for everything, like the old days?

This thread has listed well over $2 billion in capital assets out of commission for weeks to months at a time. This is going to be staggeringly expensive for Rolls.

And the only reason why BMW is able to make Rolls-Royce cars (when the original RR Motors was bought by Volkswagen) is because Rolls-Royce plc chose to licence the RR trademark to them, as they were partners in BMW Rolls-Royce (now RR Deutschland).

It's a nice circle, isn't it?

Their 5th 787 arrived just in time for the first to be out of commission. Hopefully not all of theirs will be affected. Their long haul fleet will render crippled if it happens.

Maybe they have Titan Airways number on speed dial now. Hopefully.
