Russian regional operator IrAero to try its luck on trunk air routes to China using B777s

As per the Rusavianinsider report, IrAero——a small Russian regional airline——is to ambitiously open long-haul Boeing 777 flights in the developing Russia-China market, taking advantage of the new opportunities brought by growing air traffic demand between the two neighboring countries

To achieve that, the Irkutsk-headquartered airline has opted for a five-year lease term for three Boeing 777s, the first of which has been delivered.

The report also says IrAero has got approval from Russian aviation regulator Rosaviatsiya for a scheduled weekly service on as many as 19 air lines to mainland China: 14 from Moscow and 5 from St Petersburg, Russia's two largest cities

Amazing plans indeed for this regional operator, who certainly has no such worries as overflight issues
We'll see how the airline is to successfully upscale its operations

2018 is just half through, yet we've seen the opening of a flurry of Moscow-China services already (See: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1396441 and viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1397423)

It seems unclear to what extent this has been driven by the one-time World Cup Russia effect or by the warm political ties pushed by the top leadership of either country.

So the sustainability of this booming Russia-China air traffic service remains to be seen

Using three aircrafts to launch 19 intercontinental routes? What will be the frequency on each routes?

I hope they won’t follow the same path as VIM Airlines, which failed in 2017 after a very rapid growth since 2016.

According to Planespotters, the first two IrAero 777s are former Emirates birds (build in 1997). They also had a short carreer with VIM Airlines in 2017 and were stored since then.

How would such flights work? Three planes and 19 routes is a stretch without using smaller planes at each end. Mini-hubs?

I think the '19 routes' licensing is merely an upper-end, it'll likely turn out that they'll only have 1-2 city pairs per a/c
