Air Koryo to open Xi'an-Pyongyang charter service in July

Xi'an is going to have charter service to Pyongyang on Air Koryo starting from July next month, becoming the airline's 5th Chinese destination after Beijing, Shenyang, Shanghai, Chengdu, according to the Tourism Commission of Shaanxi Province, as local newspaper Xi'an Evening reports (http://news.xiancn.com/content/2018-06/ ... 350770.htm)

Mr Meng Xiangguo, vice-director of the Tourism Commission of Shaanxi Province, said that local travel authorities would be actively engaged to develop and market DPRK-bound tourism products in coordination with Air Koryo

Xi'an-Pyongyang used to be available as charter service for a while back around 2010 and was warmly received among tourists then

The report says obtaining a DPRK visa is relatively easy for Chinese tourists, normally taking 5-7 workdays

This service should come as no surprise in the wake of DPRK's improving relations with China and the rest of the world that keep moving in the positive direction. Mr Kim Jong Un just concluded his third visit to China yesterday in less than 3 months

What do these people do in NK? Other than take government tours of the city etc.

The government tours include a number of day-trips. For example the DMZ takes nearly a day. Mt. Paekdu/Baekdu is another day. Some trips also do a day trip to Nampo.

There are also lots of beautiful beaches that aren't very crowded. For the Chinese it's a very easy and cheap way for a vacation on a beach.

Don't forget those North Korean casinos or golf courses. Some nice Water Parks and Theme Parks that you don't have to wait in line for an hour, either. :scratchchin: :scratchchin:

Sadly, North Korea doesn't have much luxurious shopping, though, not even fake LVs or Guccis or Rolexs :cry2:

More seriously, though, Chinese are just as curious about North Korea as "Westerners" in general. Also, "Red Tourism" is definitely something that's promoted by the gov't.

Will they open it with An-148?

Buy the way is Antonov still offering the aircarft up for sale?

Anybody who wants a few of those pieces of flying junk can probably get them for next to nothing from Cubana de Aviación. Low hours. As good as new (which isn't to say much). Oh, and they are An-158s...even more junk for your money.

They won't. It would be ATL-FNJ to spite DTW. The flight number will carry on to PBI.
