Potential for 797F Variant?

Wed Jun 20, 2018 11:23 pm

Does anyone think that a dedicated 797 freighter is a possibility? After all, the major shippers have hundreds of 757s all together, and a one to one replacement plus growth is a potential gold mine for boeing imo

Such freighter will probably be more for replacement market for 767F instead of 757F?

I think a 787F would be a replacement for the 767F whilst a 797F would replace the 757F. Cargo operators would rather see growth in the cargo space than shrink and the 797 won't be as large as the 767.

I am not too sure about the idea of 797 being smaller than 767(-200 anyway)

It depends on the dimensions of the final plane and how well they match up to a dedicated freighter.

If the rumors of a slightly ellipsoidal fuselage are true, then maybe not since it would mean customized main deck pallet loading which impacts interlining with other frames.

the 767F has a long run ahead (maybe 25 years worth).. cargo carriers want cheap reliable planes and since all the development costs are paid for and the factory practically runs on peanuts, why would a carrier want to invest in a 787F or 797F with all the development costs tacked on.. cargo doesn't care about how new the model is.. yes maybe someday way out there there will be a 797F.. but a 787F I doubt it
