He didn't make it sound like MIA was a focus, but frankly I'm thinking it should and could be an early focus city. CS100/CS300/A320/A321 - oh the dreams that can be made by armchair route planners. (I left out the 787 to avoid getting A.net all worked up).

Do you think it will fly to FLL or MIA? Or both

There’s really not much MIA can get more at this point (that makes sense).

Asia will eventually happen as well as Africa but it’s no rush.

I’ll give a list of possibilities but it doesn’t mean it will happen so take it however you want.

Brussels, Cathay, ANA/JAL, SAA, RJ, Emirates, Etihad, Korean, Icelandair, LOT, Norwegian, Philippines, Ukraine, RAM.

Those airlines have shown interest in the past but doesn’t necessarily mean they will come.

Out of the list, MIA will be lucky to get 3 within the next few years.

That’s good. But why Emirates? They already have a good thing going at FLL... Well... from what I’ve heared.

MIA will be hampered by FLL's presence in this respect, however I would love to see AA provide greater U.S. connectivity via MIA. As is, trunk South Florida routes run to FLL (as both the LCCs and the airport's lower costs provide a haven for such services). AA has banked on international expansion, and even recently, has expanded further into the Caribbean. Future fleet arrivals will provide 737-Max8 capabilities to MIA in abundance. The natural inclination is to double-down on international destinations, however - it should be supported by adding more U.S. network access. To be certain, AA does a fantastic job of employing MIA as the 'gateway of the Americas' - that said, I hope that they do not leave a niche open for a LCC to supplant them, at MIA.

Seems to be about 0%.

The only Oneworld presence in Portland is AA to DFW PHX ORD CLT LAX, and PHL for a few weeks in the summer.

Is AA at twice daily, year round on MIA-SEA? I am always surprised at how little service South Florida has to the Pacific Northwest. I would have assumed the market can sustain 4-5 year round, daily flights to SEA, at least year round daily to PDX and also at least year round daily to YVR.

And you think Emirates really minds that?

Absolutely not. Just look at their network and see how close they operate to other airports in an area. JFK/EWR for example. Of course, they are a way bigger market but just using them as example.

But let’s be real. Emirates isn’t going to Miami anytime soon. The market right now is pretty much captured.

If B6 cuts back PDX-LGB as announced, they will be in retreat mode from Portland.

As for PHX, they already have multiple flights to MIA on AA.

This is a ULH idea, but what about MIA-JNB on a B77W or a B789 for American Airlines, 3-5 times weekly? There could be feed at the JNB end in Comair (BA South Africa), and so one would not need to rely on O&D, and it would likely take traffic away from Delta Air Lines. From JNB to MIA is 7005 nmi as the crow flies. Right now, the links to South Africa are restricted to daily on DL on a B77L from ATL and daily on SA on an A346 from JFK. I would say that the Boeing 777-300ER would be a better choice because JNB is hot and high.

Doubt they would use a 789

There was a time when MIA-YOW was supposedly on AA/Eagle's radar. Not sure if there's any current traction on that.

MIA-Africa will happen. Eventually...

And yes, American has interest. But we must wait for more 787s to arrive before we can predict the possibility.

As a South/Central/Latin American hub, haven't really seen much expansion to new cities there, if anything routes cut (SGAS, SBPA, SBRF ... which others?).

I guess aside from those, most of South America is already covered.

I'll throw a few ideas out:

Narrowbody
YVR, SNA, BUF, PVD, MHT, ALB, MKE, ADZ, BGA, REC, SSA, NAT, ASU, DAV

Widebody
JNB/CPT, NRT, PEK/PVG, WAW, MAN, ADD, KEF, CGN, TXL

MIA-COR seems reasonable.

And I think they would be demand for MIA-LPA to come back or a try at a MIA-TFS.

LATAM just added back Salvador.

AA had just added Cartagena and Bonaire, and also adding Pereira, Córdoba, Georgetown and St. Vincent this winter.

I also expect LATAM to add Belo Horizonte following AA's surprising exit.
