And since this NK network adjustment just happened this past week, we will have to actually wait and see if there are any cutbacks in FLL. There clearly have been some minor adjustments already.

There have been no minor adjustments at all at FLL, where are you getting that info? Are you confusing some reduced September/October flying for minor adjustments that are long-term?

Spirit is discontinuing eleven routes, mostly West Coast focused, that are likely what will fund the MCO flying.

I've looked up Q4 2017 yields for several routes where NK competes against B6 out of both MCO/FLL (BWI/EWR/PVD/BDL/BOS/SJU). I can tell you without a doubt that NK performs better out of MCO in all of them. And, the fare premium that B6 has over NK is greater out of FLL in all of them. And the difference is not trivial in most cases. Now unfortunately, we don't have international data, but I'd venture that they'd show similar numbers.

NK doesn't service PVD. I looked at BOS-MCO and B6 has the largest market share. Where are you getting the NK MCO yield information?

I must have confused PVD with something else.

I get my fare and lf data off BTS for Q4.

As an example for BOS-MCO/FLL

CityPairDistanceCarrier Boarded AvgFare LF AvgAsm PRASM
FLLBOS 1237 DL 5275 187.74 91.71% 172.18 0.1392
FLLBOS 1237 NK 44411 78.85 77.46% 61.07 0.0494
FLLBOS 1237 B6 117242 210.39 84.56% 177.9 0.1438
MCOBOS 1121 DL 57277 183.19 80.90% 148.21 0.1322
MCOBOS 1121 NK 49695 77.44 81.81% 63.35 0.0565
MCOBOS 1121 B6 178845 194.39 81.39% 158.2 0.1411

BOS probably had the smallest gap between FLL/MCO.

other examples
FLLEWR 1065 NK 102106 59.46 74.32% 44.2 0.0415
FLLEWR 1065 WN 47859 113.85 87.00% 99.05 0.093
FLLEWR 1065 B6 108442 165.86 86.37% 143.26 0.1345
FLLEWR 1065 UA 162119 168.78 86.68% 146.3 0.1374
MCOEWR 937 NK 74882 69.98 81.72% 57.19 0.061
MCOEWR 937 WN 37613 139.33 93.71% 130.57 0.1393
MCOEWR 937 B6 153248 155.02 90.01% 139.54 0.1489
MCOEWR 937 UA 228463 182.93 90.50% 165.56 0.1767

FLLBDL 1173 NK 22696 62.56 75.10% 46.98 0.0401
FLLBDL 1173 WN 24644 144.01 88.75% 127.8 0.109
FLLBDL 1173 B6 47078 166.53 83.25% 138.63 0.1182
MCOBDL 1050 NK 25118 74.31 83.71% 62.2 0.0592
MCOBDL 1050 WN 66479 162.65 90.90% 147.84 0.1408
MCOBDL 1050 B6 50354 180.63 86.15% 155.61 0.1482

It's also important to note that since these are fares only multiplied by LF, ancillary revenues could change this by quite a bit. Which I think could tilt things even more in favour of MCO, since you tend to get families with a lot of luggages.

Can they really sell those assets though? I'm not sure how gates at FLL are allocated. I do know that B6 is getting 5 more gates. So, I would imagine if they were willing to put some investment in, FLL is flexible toward adding more gates.

It really boils down to whether the airport would confer whatever access benefits they have on the party they are sold to. If the airport signed some letter saying they would confer all current benefits to another carrier I think it would allow a sale.

Having said that, there was a slight reduction in FLL service associated with this, so it appears to me there is no sale. Also, with FLL losing a runway for 6 months this may just be the relief valve strategy.

I arrived last Tuesday on VS #15 from LGW, we were an hour late and there were 2 other VS 747's there, the earlier LGW and MAN, EI from DUB had arrived same time as us, as did TAM from GIG, and LH from FRA. The DL AMS was final call for luggage and the plane being towed back to their gates.

Security was full but I was thru in 10 minutes, another 5 for baggage. It helped being VS premium Econ, but I'm sure it only saved maybe an additional 15 mins. IN other words MCO Customs is doing a good job with the facilities they have, which I might add, appear to be under construction.
