Any predictions for PDX? They appear to have the ground facilities to expand there if they desire to.

WN had said last year that it wanted to add CMH-LGA nonstop service it if could acquire extra slots at LGA, and WN will likely be announcing CMH-LGA nonstop service next week.

I don't see the allure to WN operating CMH-LGA. Especially seeing how the largest aircraft on the route are CR9s &E175s.

Nonstop fares for this coming October start at $300 r/t and quickly jump to $400 r/t (or at least the last I looked) on CMH-LGA. WN, which is the biggest airline at CMH (and, as platts mentioned, has explicitly said they'd add it slot-permitting), could come in, dump fares, and maybe prompt a response from DL by having them throw a 717 on there in place of a CR9/E75.

It's been a while, but I seem to remember the PDEW being massive for the route when looking through one time.

JAX I could see just because F9 just added it and WN could probably push them off of it pretty easily. Plus it's the highest PDEW not served from STL. I would normally think it would be a spring add but maybe F9 adding it pushes it up. PBI I think stays as a March, Saturday only route. The rest are dart throws for me. I wouldn't be surprised if the come (except maybe SLC) but I also wouldn't be surprised if they aren't added for 5 years.

I'm wondering if that STL-PBI seasonal service coincides with Cardinals Spring Training in nearby Jupiter.

It does. I am assuming that is the reason it runs when it does.

Terminal 1 renovations at LAX are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, and WN will have room to add more nonstop flights out of LAX once Terminal 1 renovations are completed. The WN 5/31 schedule extension will extend the WN schedule past the expected date of completion of the LAX Terminal 1 renovation project, so WN might possibly announce additional flights out of LAX in this schedule extension.

WN has already stated that the initial WN nonstop service to Hawaii will be out of OAK, SJC, SMF, and SAN, so WN will not be adding or announcing any nonstop service to Hawaii to LAX until after WN announces nonstop service to Hawaii from OAK, SJC, SMF, and SAN.

The completion of the WN Terminal 1 renovations at LAX, the extension of WN LAX-OMA nonstop service to year-round nonstop service starting in 2 weeks from now, and the already announced LAX-TPA nonstop service that will be starting this August was previously discussed at https://www.airliners.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1390629.

What nonstop routes could WN add out of LAX in the 5/31 schedule extension?

The top destinations traveled to from PDX that do not currently have any nonstop service out of PDX on any airline include FLL, BNA, MSY, TPA, RDU, and IND. WN could add nonstop service to at least IND, BNA, MSY, and RDU from PDX. AS is also already at IND, BNA, MSY, and RDU, and AS could add nonstop service to these 4 destinations if WN doesn't.

While WN has a significant presence in Florida, WN is unlikely to add nonstop service to any Florida destinations from PDX, even though there is enough demand for WN, AS, B6, or NK to add nonstop service to FLL and TPA from PDX, since TPA and FLL are so far from PDX. However, I could see AS or B6 possibly adding PDX-FLL nonstop service, and I also could see AS possibly adding PDX-TPA nonstop service.

There was an article in the WSJ that said that WN had plans on adding more flights out of CLT once additional gates are opened at CLT. WN could also add STL-CLT nonstop service, and both US and TW used to serve CLT nonstop from STL prior to the AA-TW and AA-US mergers. .

AA/TW was not a merger, it was a purchase of certain assets from TWA's estate.

Don’t forget the biggest unserved route, PDX-MIA, although that’s a missing link on AA’s route map.

LAX will eventually get Hawaii flights I'm guessing 2 HNL,2 OGG , 1 KOA and 1 LIH. IF it's true each ETOPS turn takes 90mins by FAA regulations that locks up a lot of gates.
Unless WN flys 4 of the fights out first thing in the morning. Or it could possibly use its TBI gate for Hawaii flights and shuttle bus everyone.

I could definitely see some winter adds. As well as the typical increase of frequencies from north to south&vice versa. Maybe a daily LGA-MSY on WN, and a couple of LGA-BWI.
For DCA, that's still up in the air. Probably a destination down south like RSW, and maybe some northeast destinations like ISP and/or BUF? I wouldn't rule out ALB either.

I agree that WN could possibly add ALB-DCA nonstop service since ALB is located in the capital city of New York, since New York is the 4th most populous U.S. state, since WN has over 40% market share at ALB, and since WN already serves 5 other U.S. capital cities (ATL, AUS, CMH, BNA, and PVD) nonstop from DCA.

Apparently SMF-MSY is going seasonal in August.

Leaving SMF at 0625 left it relying on a ton of O&D from SMF which didn’t seem to make any sense.

Not a surprise as it is a rather thin route and inbound MSY tourism drops off a cliff in August. Will be interesting to see if they bring it back next spring.

There are a lot more connections that make sense through MSY than SMF, so the timing makes sense for that. Doing a quick browse, there are decent connections from SMF through MSY to or from TPA, MCO, FLL, BNA, DCA, STL and HOU

SMF-BNA is a flight I would use.

But WN doesn't want to waste that space for connections on such a thin route.

It isn't possible. We don't even have space, and the demand isn't strong.

It could possibly work with other ULCCs like F9 or NK once more space is added. We do infact have two gates under construction.

I'm not sure that there is as much traffic between D.C. and state capitals. At least not government driven. Living in the state I do, our senators and most of our representatives would not lower themselves to fly on WN. So they get AA on RJ's.

Unfortunately, this topic is also being discussed on the WN Airlines thread, more recently in fact. Too bad to have a popular subject being split between threads; it kind of interrupts the continuity of the discussions. Oh well, just to let you know.

There's a daily DSM-PHX flight. This was weekends only last year, and didn't begin until January.

Edit: Unless they haven't fully loaded the schedule yet, this flight appears to end December 15.

MSP picks up a Saturday-only MCO flight. No return of LAS, DAL. Decrease to just 3x DEN which has been 4 or 5 even.

Edit: versus Dec 2017, MSP goes from 23 departures during the week down to 21. Basically, cuts to DEN (-2) and BWI (-1) YOY. OAK is the add over last year.

I am not sure why they are not cutting both fll and mco entirely. They are completely uncompetitive on both routes and are bleeding money. Do they think going down to once daily will actually make it more viable?

This flight is on a 738. This is a huge bump for a small station like DSM, going from 3 flights a day to 4, with the added nonstop on a 738. I wonder why they only offer it for a month and a half..ending just before the holiday rush. Hopefully they'll bring it back again in January like last year.

Would that make it officially a WN handled station now and not outsourced? IIRC union contracts would require WN in house handling on 10+ flights from a station.

That's what is so frustrating. WN is my preferred airline...I can't stand B6. However, realistically, when you fly one flight at 6am and B6 and UA both have multiple flights and NK even has 3, how is someone who is not local to right around EWR able to take this option? It is a 1 hour drive to EWR from my new place, but only 15 mins to HPN...looks like I'll have to give up my loyalty. And I'm sure it's not just me...WN has strong local connections in FLL. How does someone who was vacationing in NYC get to EWR for a 6am flight? It's mind boggling how mismanaged WN's NE-FL strategy is, however they can get away with it in most markets with limited competition...NYC is a whole different animal though.
