Super-vague.

Essentially no context nor timeframe given.

Hate when airlines do this.

Well their CEO did send a letter to customers announcing that the current president and CFO will take his role in 2019. So that’s big news

The CEO email also said they would be rolling out self-tagging for bags. Maybe that was BIG?

With how the announcement is being teased, I’m thinking it’s going to be something tangible to passengers, not a changing of the guard so to speak.

Addition of WiFi seems to lead the rumor mill, followed by possibly an enhanced customer service experience (improved big front seats that might include some included extras or something along those lines).

While NK already serves most of its domestic destinations nonstop from DFW, NK does have opportunities to add nonstop service to a few additional destinations from DFW.

Will NK be announcing new nonstop service to CMH and/or RIC from DFW? Does NK plan on bringing back DFW-PDX nonstop service?

Wifi or airplanes, that's my guess. I did hear Embraer is out.

The 2 things that are most likely; WIFI or a significant aircraft order.

Other likely scenarios could be something like improved cabin amenities (like the addition of more big front seats to essentially create a 2nd cabin).

Less likely but still possible could be a DTW and LAS “hub” announcement, HQ relocation to Orlando (or a permanent site in Fort Lauderdale where they will have their own training facility).

Probably won’t happen: merger.

Wifi would be nice but I don't see it happening just yet.

As for the aircraft order, I would say the A330 and/or c-series

I think we would need to keep dreaming on this one.

More than likely just announcing more routes.

Maybe the C-Series with WIFI and new routes to pit the planes?

Probably an announcement of new aircraft that will greatly enhance its chances of competing with UA,WN,DELTA, and AA. If they purchase either the C-series, or Boeing 737 its a whole new ballgame in airline competition.

I highly doubt a widebody aircraft order is on the horizon, but it does make for interesting speculation. It would be great to have a US long-haul ULCC a la Norwegian or WOWair.
I alos doubt WiFi is on the horizon as well. IIRC the WiFi equipment adds a lot of weight penalties to the aircraft, and their business model is centered around keeping costs as low as possible.
A merger is extremely unlikely to me because there’s been far too much industry consolidation.

I think it’ll most likely be new routes.

Agree. Not much overlap between NK diaspora and those who need Wifi. Deep discount vacation travelers on NK who paid 80 bucks for a ticket aren't likely to shell out 12-15 USD for Wifi.

Also with a 28" seat pitch, it is literally impossible to use a laptop.

Tablets and smartphones have been 'a thing' for ten years. It's not 1998 with seven pound 14" Dell laptops.

I take one all the time on flights. Now to be fair it is on WN flights to watch tv. I have a macbook air and even on their 31/32 in pitch it can be tight to get the screen open enough to a good viewing angle. That is with a smaller computer. I can only imagine on a 29 in pitch what it is like. Not that is really matters on Spirit because they don't have tv/wifi (at the moment), although I guess some people might have movies on their computer.

That's great news! I'm sure they'll be a hefty price for using it, but hey, it's better than no wifi at all...

Flights to Hawaii perhaps? We all know Southwest is working on it, but it would be hilarious if Spirit beat them to it and announced Hawaii first. The A320NEO should be able to make it without problems.

No kidding.

I have a surface laptop that I use every flight. Guess I'm stuck in 1998

I doubt it, especially after the fiasco G4 went through.

Can a C Series work with a ULCC like Spirit?

I would hope for more Airbus or C-Series. Boeing is in the mix but I sure hope it isn't what they go for. New seats are coming but I doubt they would make such a big deal out of it. So it's probably some stupid new seat lol

The CS300 is the same size as an A319. Allegiant and EasyJet make A319s work, so no doubt the CS300 would work for Spirit.

Yes indeed, in fact CS300 is even more economically viable than the A319 and with better range...

I don’t think it’s new routes because #1, typiclally they announce September/October routes in mid June. #2 Friday isn’t a media day for coverage on air service correct? So it’s something company related directly. #3 Something like this probably means a large aircraft purchase, most likely from another manufacturer.

No such airplane type. The 787-900 doesn’t exist either.

Wasn’t there another thread that recently stated that Sprit is considering the 737 Max? While I would never fly Spirit, is line to see them go Boeing.

That's what I said earlier today on here. Nobody has bit on it but that is one thing. It appears NK is announcing something daily this week as part of "service" enhancements.

Doubt there will be an announcement of new aircraft based upon how they are using Twitter for this. Seems like little things to the casual a.net user, but BIG to NK.

Both the 319 & 319neo have better range than either C-Series variant

Book Values

319 3,750 nm
319neo 3,750 nm
CS100 3.100 nm
CS300 3,300nm

This is an aviation enthusiast web site. I assume people want to have a correct understanding of things.

If my mother were to mis-state a model designation, I probably wouldn’t say anything. When a fellow enthusiast does, I corrected him.

This has come up before so I checked the FAA type cert work sheet. It is -8.

Agree, focus seems to be on service and nothing earth shattering. I'd love to be wrong though. My vote is either systemwide self bag tagging or in flight wifi
