XTRA Airways faces a $50mil racketeering lawsuit

Tue Apr 10, 2018 4:44 pm

26 parties have filed Federal suit against owners and officers of Florida based XTRA Airways allegeing violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, fraud, violations of Consumer Protection/Unfair Competition Act, breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and negligence related to failure to provide required aircraft and operate flights contracted between Saipan and China.

Plaintiff allege XTRA entered into contract for flying for which defendants deposit money and committed to utilization of up to 2 aircraft. Suit claims XTRA only supplied single aircraft however was not able to operate bulk of intended flying as it did not hold require authorization from both the FAA and CAAC China including traffic rights, ETOPS authorization and violated FAA crew duty and rest requirements.
Due ongoing operational and maintenance issues the carrier stranded 2,000 passengers while also failing to pay fees required for ground handling and related services for contracted flights. XTRA ultimately cancelled the charter contract and failed to return deposit monies to the plaintiff.

Sounds like a total mess of an operation.

Wonder how this will hang over the current AOC sale attemps by XTRA

Yes sounds like a disaster of an operation.

Two of the defendants - Frank J. Visconti and Nicolas Finazzo have had their hands in many aviation ventures over the decades mostly ending in failure it seems.

This is the operation once known as Casino Express, correct? Because the only time I've really heard of them is during NCAA tournament season with all the charters they've picked up.

They're still called Casino Express, and they still fly around regularly, mostly with 734s.

Not from an operational standpoint, at least here in the US. They appear to be well organized and efficient with well maintained aircraft and reliable operations.
