Also, as far as I know, AA doesn't fly to HKG from any of its other east coast and midwest hubs, so I am betting connecting traffic from JFK, ORD, PHL, DCA, CLT and MIA are either routed through DFW or LAX. So @yashk's question is quite valid, in the absence of a major hub operation at BLR, how do you expect AI to start non-stop BLR-SFO with 50 expected PDEW?
Sorry, but this was not your original argument. You made some simplistic and amateurish calculation and you were pointed out examples of where you were wrong. Even now, you are not getting it! By your own logic LAX and ORD are better hubs for AA to fly to HKG. Why are they flying from DFW then?? So they can connect passengers from XNA? I hate to break it to you, but PDEW from XNA to HKG is next to nada
Also, I have already explained that simply connecting the South Indian cities of MAA, TRV and HYD with a hypothetical BLR-SFO will get you enough to fill the aircraft based on PDEW numbers. No need to have a major hub operation. Also I am not commenting on "expected PDEW" numbers since I am not a clairvoyant to project such numbers. I can tell you from historical data across the globe that when there is a new non stop flight, the market stimulates well; in some cases astronomically.
devmapper wrote:Also, your assertion with respect to the origin of passengers to SFO from India doesn't stand up to scrutiny. As @sand26391 has already indicated, DEL remains the largest origination point for people flying to SFO. Keep in mind AI's connecting flights from the major metros to DEL allow passengers to complete emigration formalities at the origin airports, they are not counted as passengers originating in DEL. If you have access to better public sources for facts that indicate market dynamics favor BLR as an international hub vs. DEL, we'd all like to see them, since hopefully that will help end this pointless male body part measuring contest. :
Again, keep the emotions under control and read what I wrote. I ONLY commented on the BLR-SFO route and not for AI to make an International hub or its viability as a hub versus the current hub structure in Delhi. Further, I would like to clarify that the O&D numbers shared are for passengers ticketed between the two points across all airlines in a given period. This is not AI only and has absolutely nothing to do with where passengers complete emigration.

Not if you fly easterly closer to CCU or DAC
devmapper wrote: Well, since India-SFO flights overfly CCU, why not have the hub at CCU?
That's Irehdna's logic. Ask him.
I am clearly telling you to overfly a hub (DEL) as long as there is a good enough market, with limited competition, with premium component, sustainable and growing for the foreseeable future (BLR-SFO).
